st3ph3n Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I've never done any 1/4 mile stuff before and I'm not exactley going to challenge the big boys at crail, but what's the best way to get off the line without: a) Making an erse of my self. Destroying my clutch
G.Mac Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Well I wouldnt listen to me as I semed to have managed to kill a clutch in 14.5 K miles but bn informed rather than trying to take away smoothley , just to sidestep the clutch which I will be trying this time [*-)][8-)] Graeme
fai17 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 5000 to 6000rpm then dump the clutch when you see the yellow light[]
andrew_lally Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Limiter......foot just catching the clutch......side step and AWAY!!! If this dont work....it may bog you down....then Limiter slip clutch till moving and boost right up then full lift off!!! but either way is gonna have a detroMENTAL effect on your clutch!!! best idea is to practise before you get there mate!!! regards andy
RS Grant Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Yea, defo a good idea to have a couple of shots and see what works for your car mate... I keep it at 3k, when the lights turn orange I floor it and side-step the clutch, absolutely no idea of the revs that its at.. If I had to guess, it would be around 6k.. Does the job, IMO. [] Cheers, Grant
steve_nairn_sti Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 When you guys talk about side stepping the clutch I presume you mean exactly that....just let the clutch ping. Do you take it near the bite first or do you have it fully disengaged? Tried it in my last scoob twice and then replaced the clutch a week later! Not too keen on trying it in the new one.
RS Grant Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I dont take up the bite... I dont feed it in at all, IMO, the quickest way to do a clutch in is to feed it in at 7k revs!! [] When I say sidestep, I would like to mean exactly that, but my big feet would get in the way and mess it all up......... I just bring my foot off very quickly, it is a lot like pinging it, but the pedal is supported all the way up. Cheers, Grant
Dougie C Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 What happens if you don't have a clutch and its an automatic?? Do you just floor it lol. Sorry couldnt resist the comment. Dougie
Dougie C Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 hehe thanks Brian. Will have to try that with the hand controls see how it goes lol. Only problem is I can't brake and put the power on at the same time. Dougie
wrxmania Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Yeah - side step the hand controls - may be a challenge Dougie []
wrxmania Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 In fact - there can't be many cars attend Crail complete with hand controls - you'd break their track record for sure []
Dougie C Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 hehe it would be great to beat the record or even beat them hands down lol. Dougie
diffbuster Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Do not slip the clutch you will burn it out in 1 run, four and a half k is a good starting point hold it there left foot off like a switch and your off on yellow, if it dies take the revs higher next time if it bogs down let some air out of your tires 25-26 psi works good{tyres stand up on launch and doesnt cause too much drag} good luck its addictive and more expensive than drugs.
RS Grant Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I dropped the pressure of my Eagle F1's on my GT4 to 19PSi.... promptly sh@t the diff after that.... [] Cheers, Grant
Guest Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 i believe the best way to start is blipping the throttle 3-5k revs helps keeps the boost up better then when the lights go orange burry the throttle and drop the clutch worked for my mate in the evo prior to litterly ripping 2 square feet out of his tyre he managed to run 13.2 on his first run. it's a good idea to keep an eye on the traffic light style starting lights before u go on the strip give u an idea how they work so u only have to concentrate on ur launch and not working out how the lights work. oh and make sure ur in 1st seen a few people lauch in 3rd and stall and one guy in reverse in an impreza shaat himself when he side stepped the clutch at 6k and he went backwards i laughed for about an hour after that
