steve_nairn_sti Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Alright folks? Am looking for your opinions/experiences with brakes and pads. I can't afford to go for a brake conversion (Due to the Mrs wanting a new kitchen!) so am trying to suss out what other people would recommend on standard calipers. What are you running and how well would you rate them?[] Cheers, Steve
craig mac Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I have just fitted the ferodo DS2500'S, And they are AWESOME. Oh and braided hoses and changed my brake fluid too. Craig
sandyRS16i Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 totally agree, i have tarox discs, but the ferodo DS2500 pads and braided hoses made a huge difference over standard set up, i had the ability to stop.......it was amazing at first in comparison........
dave_morgan Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Can't recommend DS2500 enough either. Good on the standard 4 pots and AWESOME on the AP's.
steve_nairn_sti Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 Looks like that's pads sorted then...... What about discs? Have heard to stay away from Black Diamond and the like. Any other useful advice?
craig mac Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I still have the standard discs on my car, dont feel the need to change them since fitting the hoses and DS pads Craig
st3ph3n Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Quote I still have the standard discs on my car, dont feel the need to change them since fitting the hoses and DS pads Craig You'll soon get those discs worn out with a few more goes round Knockhill. []
steve_nairn_sti Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 Discs are getting a lip on them now and they feel like they're well past their best. Surprised to hear that you're running standard discs with those power figures though Craig![]
craig mac Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 The car is only a year old Steve and St3ph3n, me at knockhill na nae me[] Craig
steve_nairn_sti Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 I see. Makes sense to wear the original discs fully I suppose then. Mine's four years old and I think it might still be running the original discs, hence the need to change! I've just dropped Alyn at asperformance a mail so I'll see what he recommends.
craig mac Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Good choice, Alyn Some dodgy geezer told me to go to him too.[] Craig
scooby222 Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 i used to have mintex ctech discs on my old impreza and they were certainly an improvement over the standard setup without being grumbly. you should keep an eye out or check breakers yards for someone selling the brembo discs and calipers off a new age sti like mine or craig macs, a good cost effective upgrade. after all they manage to keep saving my ass on our runs []
