Go on Scotland Heey haa 2-1 the boys but the defense looked a bit dodgy! but it's the score that counts - get in there!!!

Back on subject

Got back from Andy F at about 16:30 just in time for the footy after a good day getting the motor mapped. Left Abderden at 06:30 with a moan from the wife that I don't normally get up in the morning that easily (No don't even go there Craig) but I was all excited just like a wee kid. Filled up at Loirston with some V-Power and set off with AA auto route print out in hand (Must get that sat nav I'm after). Drove down at a nice leisurely pace as I decided after Russell at WP had fitted my Apexi AVCR controller that I would leave it off and get it set up by Andy at the same time as I got car mapped so leaving it off meant the boost was peak at 0.5 - 0.75 bar. Stopped off at Horn cafe for a bacon & egg roll (Bacons too salty for me) and a coffee as Julie wouldn't get up and make me breakfast, cheek of it (Time for a trade in I think). Anyway back on the road and down to Andy F. Arrived safe and well at Port Seton then drove into Barracks street to find a dead end and no sign of a garage. After checking my AA route about 5 times threw it in the back and decided to drive around. Came out Barrack street and took the next right Seton something or other which took me to the harbour, no Garage with Andy Forrest Performance on it so now thinking OK I'm lost - time to call Andy. Call's Andy and with that he pulls in about with the van and it's turns out I'm parked right in front of his place - "now that's lucky"

After 5 - 10 minutes of pleasentaries and checking out Andy's new blobeye white Spec C and wetting myself over "The Beast" got down to business. Andy hooked up all his gadgetry while receiving a few interesting packages, then off we went.

Began with the usual cruise just to get the basics set up. Then a few blasts of the throttle - OK. Then some 3K to  6K revs in 4th blasts and stopped off at a layby for a few adjustments then another few blasts upto 6.5K and again a few adjustments and then Weeeeheee!!!! What a difference now pulling like a train - the difference is brilliant. Biggest bug bare I had before is that the boost would build up to 1.5 bar but only for a moment then drop off and the power was limited to between 3K and 5K then there was a very noticable drop off in the performance. Well that is well and truly cured. Did a couple of Dyno simulation runs from 1800 revs to 7500revs and against the wind estimated at 330bhp and down wind was 360bhp so the correct figure will be somewhere in the middle I reckon 345bhp but will need to do a Dyno run. When doing the Dyno simulation noticed that there was a slight hesitation at 7000revs and car did it a couple of times so Andy checked it out. Car was running rich at 7000revs as Andy wanted a good safety margin but when checked reckoned it could have been a little to rich so sorted it out and a couple more runs to check and all is well.

Not getting so high a boost in 3rd and 4th 1.4 bar as I am in 5th and 6th 1.7 bar but its holding the boost now, should be able to sort with the AVCR in gear adjustment but need to get it looked at by WP as the speed pick up isn't working. Had a problem when it was fitted as the wiring diagram for rev pick up was wrong (And instructions in Japanese). Russell managed to sort it out but suspect the speed one is wrong as well so need to take it back into WP,  I will give them a call tomorrow. Also on the way to the bank one of the boost hoses came off the solenoid. Thought I was reaching 2 bar and got all excited then suddenly no boost. Andy diagnosed a detached hose so pulled over. Popped the bonnet and re-attached it then off we went.

Got back to Andys and andy took all his gear out, by the way if you give him a hand beware of the C02 sensor in the exhaust - it's HOT!!! and Sooty!!

Coughed up the money with a smile and a tear (Hey I'm Aberdonion - I hate spending money even when it makes me a happy camper) and thanked Andy for a great job and said my cheerios and set off up the road. Decided to take the scenic tourist route to see all the pretty sites - well OK to have a blast. Forget it!! what a nightmare- drove from Seton through to Musselborough (for more fuel) - Kinghorn - Kirkcaldy - Coaltown on Weymes - East Weymes and lucky if I got above 30mph. Between 20 mile an hour zones, traffic calming etc it took me ages. Nice views over the forth though so enjoyed the scenery right enough.

Once I got to Crail had a great blast to St Andrews and jesus does she go! You know when you slow down a bit because your unsure of the corner then realise it's not as sharp as you thought then stick the foot down again? well it was taking off so quick I had to back off again a few times or risk running wide . That's the real test of the mods is if it works, the added performance can be used - doesn't matter about the figures only the perfomnce and how it works as a package, well I say that now but if something breaks then no doubt I will be looking for a new bit that gives me more power (Speed should be banned it's more addictive than crack).

Next it's the T25 AST kit as I need 2 shocks so name is down on the group buy. Then I reckon a brake upgrade is needed as the Brembos aren't up to the job.

Hey I was thinking on the way up the road with a big smile and a wee stiffy!! If my car is that much fun what hell is Blue Thunder like. Need to get a PAX lap Craig, mind you not sure thats a good idea, I might land up having to get my wallet out again [:'(] but you definately need a brake upgrade!

Cheers to Andy for your time and good work.

Now crail on Sunday for a wee run

Aye well happy! I will take a while enjoying it but you know how it goes soon I will get used to the added power and will look for more. But handling and stopping need sorted it first.

So god now drives a Spec C does he now

Excellent write up and enjoy your "new" steed

The JDM car is awesome bit of kit as std bit after Andy does his thing, the best just gets better

Cheers Squirell, I the god has bought himself a Spec C - nice motor! "The beast" was awesome - what a tool, it was up on the ramp so had a good look underneath.

Andy compared my map with andyjdmsti and they were pretty simliar. andyjdmsti had more at the top end and mine was better in the mid range. I wonder what andy's set is?

Thanks for the feedback Gordon [;)] Those twin scrolls are just so nice to map as they have such a wide useable power band. It almost doesn't matter what gear you are in as long as its somewhere between 3 and 8k [:o]

Once you get the AVC-R wired correctly then the in-gear boosts can be set up more linear.

cheers

99% of that went whooshing over my head, but "on the way up the road with a big smile and a wee stiffy!!" has to go down as quote of the week! [;)]

Was it my first map that andy compared it with or the one after i got my turbo played with??

If they are similar then it possibley is my first map.

good to hear you are happy with it  [;)]

AndyF does a great job again....if i wasn't using what i have got i would no doubt be one of God's client.[;)]

I'm so glad that you are happy Gogsie but power is an addiction so what is next then?

See you on Sunday.(not with a stiffy tho[:o])

It was your original turbo/decat/remap power curve that we referenced with Andy. It had a few lbft more in the midrange and a few bhp less at the top end, possibly due to running with a sports cat instead of a humungus wake the dead system [;)]

Aye I have a similiar set up Brembos, Goodridge hoses, DOT 5.1 and Redstuff ceramics. Helluva difference with the hoses and fluid but not sure about the pads. They are better but I reckon I probably need 6 pots and bigger discs.

Posted

I was going to go for the redstuff ones too but the lad at AS performance put me off them, he said they would maybe last one or two track days!!![:D]

And the DS pads are actual racing pads, so need a wee warm up first, but christ they fair bite when needed.

Ive an appointment with him on the 13th so hope he can work his magic with me!

Herbie,

Did you not just get a remap done by Japerformance?

I'm going to ask Mr F really nicely to do my remap when all the bit are bolted on [:D]

pmsl..........it aint that loud, you must just be getting old  [:P]

Did not realise a sports cat could give you a little extra over a decat??  Could you enlighten me or am i just being thick?  [:D]

OH, so it was Alyn @ ASP that told you that. HMM! I could have sworn someone else said it days before the same person told you to go and see Alyn and get the DS series pads.

Oh, I'm sorry, my bad.[:|]

I was told when I was looking to buy an exhaust system that there was little difference in the flow between the Hayward & Scott 3" sports cat and a decated system and I guess it would depend on other mods. Not that I've done any just a green panel filter, a sytec fuel pump and the AVCR boost controller. Might have been the weather as well. Don't  worry though there wasn't much difference in it and you did have the better top end. But midrange torque is where it counts - He He [Y] [:D]

What are you putting out now with the turbo mods? I'm sure it's better
