Andy S Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 i dont see no differance wiv my car and its dearer then Optimax 100.9 [] optimax was 103 in Macc prior to Vpower so it is cheaper
RA Dunk Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 its gone more expensive for me up in scotland optimax was around 99p pl ,Vpower is at around 1.02 (usually slightly above) []
dipsy Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Noony i have 05 Jdm sti standard and still use millers octane booster plus every time i fill up ie when it was optimax and do the same with V-power .98.9 in Dundee
steve_noon Posted September 3, 2006 Author Posted September 3, 2006 Cheers for the info, I still have to fill up with V-power. I think I will give the Millers a miss at first and see if I notice any differance. Will be at the meet on 17th got a few questions for the enlightend. Thanks again, Steve

dipsy Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 I sent Andy f a email asking about should i use octane booster and his answer was yes so have done since i bought the car last November and i gave a fellow scoobie owner a bottle of ob at the sidc day at knockhill and he has 04 jdm sti and has never used it before but he said it made a difference when put in with V-power
Little H Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 it will do, it def makes a difference, but i have also heard reports not to use it all the while. Especially if youre car is on an OEM map
dipsy Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Going by Millers website its all right for regular use ie Millers octane booster plus which i use.and i used it in a classic my00 turbo with full decat panel filter and tek3 remap by Andy f made a difference with that aswell had the my00 from new
Bluebotle Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Hi all, I've started to use V Power and has made a significant difference to my car. The idle speed is lower now (Unsure why?) and the exhaust pops a little more on engine run down. The car feels sharper and up to now it seems to be doing slightly more MPG's than it did previously. Using Optimax I managed to cover 295miles on a full tank sometimes 305miles (driving normally with the occasional boost). The car hasn't yet used a full tank of V Power but already see the needle seems to be dropping slower than before. I have managed to drive 148miles and the needle is above the half way mark. Normally it is on or below this level. So up to now I am very happy with the fuel. 99.9p Litre at all Shell Garages around Bolton. Optimax used to be 101.9p Litre around Bolton. Highly recommend using it! Estimate it's probably 10 bhp more than before? Cheers Lee
tommy_lee Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Dont run Octane booster all the while as it could cause problems due to the engine not being necesarily used to the higher detonation factor. I only run Booster on Rolling road days, shows (for the flaming) and track days. Hi Little H Please can you elaborate? I thought you put in octane booster to increase your RON rating to NEGATE detonation?
exvaux Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I noticed from the sig pics that most of the folk on this thread have newage/bugeye scoobs anyone found any difference on a classic especialy older one as mine still bein fixed and been so since V power was released, know i was gettin 200 a tank of bp ultimate tho, will need to wait a few weeks to find out.
frank c Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 My mates RA (classic ) is popping more and says its running sweet. He never mentioned MPG though.

I thought you put in octane booster to increase your RON rating to NEGATE detonation? I ran my car with Octane booster for about 15 tanks in a row, and at first it was great and i little noticable better performance but after a while it was running rough, (idling poorly etc..) stopped using it and car went back to normal. Also posted the question on SN and the general concensus was that if you car is not mapped to run at the higher octane ratings then dont run all the while. I think its all down to you own experience, im not no technical wizard, and im sure someone can tell me different...[y]
tommy_lee Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Little H, thanks for the reply. I'd not heard of such an experience with booster before. Good to be informed!
Bluebotle Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Do you think its the same for V Power as it is for Octane Booster? My cars Fuel Flap has a sticker stating it must have RON 98 Fuel do you think the extra 1 RON in the V Power will cause any problems? [] I've never used Octane Booster before, whats the average RON increase when using it? Maybe it increases the old Opitmax Fuel way above RON 99 and that's why it causes you problems. Cheers Lee
blue boy Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Lee, I used Optimax after the 1st 1000 miles or so as recommended by the dealer, except when I couldn't get it I then use Unleaded (Super if available) with Octane Booster. I've now switched to V Power and its seems better than Optimax, although what's in the tank must be slightly diluted by Optimax. Bob
tommy_lee Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Big thumbs up from me for V Power. My STi 4 is running in at the moment after a rebuild (no more than 3000rpm) and I got 180 miles out of about half a tank
Little H Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 On Vpower still only getting 180-200 to the tank.....[]
