z1000 Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Sat at home looking outside and it's absolutely pissing it down with the forecast not looking much better for tomorrow so i was wondering is there any chance knockhill will be cancelled ? as its an early start and long drive if it is.
craig mac Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I second this request? Is it likely to be cancelled? Craig
st3ph3n Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 It's good fun in the rain. The Elises and especially the caterhams are easy pickings then.

st3ph3n Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Last year a caterham let me past on the railway straight. Then took the hairpin very gingerly (I didn't), and as I looked back in my mirror I noticed it was facing the wrong way in the grass. You need to be on top of your game to get the big power or lightweight RWD cars round in the rain.
z1000 Posted August 18, 2006 Author Posted August 18, 2006 It must suck to be in a car without a proper roof when its raining.
dave_morgan Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I think a few of the days have been cancelled in the past when it's VERY wet, but i doubt this will cause any dramas. Knockhill's got it's own weather system anyway, so it's probably tropical up there !!!! . . . . . NOT !!!!!
johns Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 It won't be cancelled due to some rain. In fact, it's often the most fun if the track is damp in places, as you can go quickly enough to give you a thrill, as well as sliding around the corners (after a bit of practice). The forecast for tomorrow is actually mostly dry, though there's a chance the track will be damp to start off with, with some showers later in the morning. With ambient temps of 15 - 17 degrees, a dry line will form very quickly. This is actually the best possible scenario, as cars start off taking it gently due to the damp track, and build up over time as the track dries until they are at full speed. Then if it rains later, now they are in tune with the track and their car, they can have a bit of fun in places. If the rain gets REALLY heavy, and there's an inch of standing water on the track, then they may close the track for ten minutes for safety reasons (ie there will be so much spray, that the marshalls can't see from one post to another). They are very used to rain at Knockhill, and it does drain off very quickly once it stops. See you all tomorow morning. John
