fraser_forbes Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Hi. I have had my car for a few weeks, when I got her, there was a small bump on the bonnet. So I took it to a place in Livingston called Firth for the bonnet to be filled in and painted. But ! to my dismay ! There colour match is %***$$£" My car is silver not gray !!!! :-( help help help I need someone that can repaint her bonnet but to silver! So do you know any good paint shops close to Livingston? Fraser = crying !!!! thanks
dave_morgan Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 If they've not matched it right, get them to fix it !!
oobster Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Is Firth the one in Houston Industrial Estate? Stevie Walker is yer man - he's in Bathgate - 01506 633471. http://www.stevewalkerbodyshop.co.uk/ If you use him, tell him Andy with the red Subaru sent you and I might get a wee tenner off next time I visit him. Agree with kart_man though - the original bodyshop should be given the chance to sort the repair properly, or they refund you.
gus the bus Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 If you use him, tell him Andy with the red Subaru sent you and I might get a wee tenner off next time I visit him. Or Gus with all the spoilers[][] Stevie will get you right

wrxmania Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 "you get what you pay for" - Trading Standards time I think - find out if they are VAT registered and then speak to your local Trading Standards office. Did you pay cash or by credit car? Brian []
oobster Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 That isn't the place ran out of a portacabin, the guy that runs it is a dead-skinny auld guy with a long ginger & white beard?
stripe Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 1 - Yes the place in Houston Est. 2 - They said you get want you pay for ! its cost me £200 Get that cheeky w****r reported to trading standards mate, there is no way he is getting away with that one!!! Don't you dare put your hand in your pocket to pay for another respray, that is an outrage!!!
z1000 Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 You paid to get your bonnet painted the same colour as your car so thats what you should get whether you paid in cash or magic beans ! Don't be fobbed off but on the other hand i wouldn't let them paint it again just tell them you want a refund.
SEEVERS Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Frazer...get the Trading Standards on to him defo.......if in the end you don't get it sorted ,go back down there and boot him square in the BAWS. Del.
fraser_forbes Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 That isn't the place ran out of a portacabin, the guy that runs it is a dead-skinny auld guy with a long ginger & white beard? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- YES
oobster Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Fraser - i've used them before then. Was maybe about 2 years ago now, they painted the drivers side of my Pug 307 (apple green) - it was a shade out afterwards. They tried a 2nd time (refused to refund me) and it was still a shade out. Again, refused to refund me but did offer to give it another go - they got some rep. in from the paint manufacturer and this time they painted-up shade cards (3 of) which were a huge help - one was spot-on. Turned out that, for Peugeot anyway, there is never just one exact shade - some cars leave the factory with a touch more yellow in them, a touch more orange etc. So the paint manufacturer rep. guy said there was actually 3 paint codes for my car - the one with a drop more yellow was the one that suited my car. So they painted the car with this shade & it was fine. If you go back to them, make sure you get them to ask the paint rep. for ALL the codes for your car, and ask for spray-cards to be made up - this made a big difference in my case. The wee audl guy with the huge beard, to give him his due, could have just washed his hands of it after the 1st attempt but he was determined to get it right - the 2nd & 3rd attempts were both at his own cost. Andy
fraser_forbes Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 update.. They have offered to do it again, But to also blend in the front wings in this time. See they done the door at the same time and that was 100% ok. see they just painted the bonet and did not blend it in to the wings ! So it is booked in the the 28th... pls all prey it comes back ok and not pink !!!!!
frank c Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Surely the guy shouldn't have let it leave his premises knowing it was the wrong colour..imho Frank
fraser_forbes Posted August 21, 2006 Author Posted August 21, 2006 Update 2 - They now cant get the colour right ! After the repaint its got lines on the bonnet and the colour is different again :-( And after chatting to Stevie Walker's guys. They are in shock on the colour that firth painted the car ! Not just the colour but the finish is crap toooooooooo. The car is now book in to Stevie Walkers, They seem really nice guys and gave me a good price ! So dont go the Firth in Livingston! !!!! !
gus the bus Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Thats sh*te mate! But I'm glad Stevie can help you out! Gus
wrxmania Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Sounds very ppor - not a recommendation. Any pictures of the poor paint? Brian []
fraser_forbes Posted August 23, 2006 Author Posted August 23, 2006 I have not took any pics yet. They used the wrong colour. My car is white silver not gray! But looking closer the paint is full of lines and the vent have runs on them ! I will post pics soon..
RS Grant Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 If it were me then I'd have gone back and asked them to re-do it free of charge, if after the 2nd attempt they had got it wrong, I'd have demanded my money back and gone to Trading Standards... If I hadnt been given my money back or got help from Trading Standards, I would have got a squad together and travelled down in a transit van* and persuaded them to give me my money back........ Cheers, Grant *The van is a key player here, makes you look like you mean business.. bank robbers use transit vans.... lol []
bigbadboab Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 That isn't the place ran out of a portacabin, the guy that runs it is a dead-skinny auld guy with a long ginger & white beard? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- YES His name is Ronnie and DID have a good reputation as a painter, but I think he is starting to get by his 'sell by date'. They were formerly known as Livingston Accident Repair Centre and it was all insurance jobs. Fraser, still keep hassling him about it and he will cave in, remembering to mention Trading Standards. A big sh!te bag
