bigdavie Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 what's involved ??? spacers ?? 17"'s is it even possible ??
drb5 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 It is possible, but for the price they command at the moment, you would be as well trying to get some secondhand AP's. You need spacers for sure, but the size of them depend on the offset of your wheels.(at least 17's) Then, if the spacers are fairly larger, you need longer wheel studs. A bit complicated, considering AP 4 pots, can fit under 16's when using 304mm discs.
G.T. Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 the milenium falcon had brembos of a seat leon cupra r on it in its former guise, then they ended up on weebs motor which is now in the hands of pedals so you could ask him or wilky whats involved
johns Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 It is possible, but needs a lot of work. To get a good pedal response, you'll also need the servo/master cylinder set-up from an STi as well, otherwsie you'll get a long pedal most of the time. John
drb5 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Taking out the bias valve altogether and replacing with joiners semmed to do the trick there, John. I was surprised just how much better it made it in fact.
col666 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I've got STI 8 Brembos on mine, havent had any probs with pedal feel or bite but desperately needing to change pads. Got mintex 1144 on just now and they are really awful, rumbling and soft pedal while braking from anything over 80mph! the pad have only done 3000 miles. Think i cooked them on a spirited run the other week[:$] They were on the car when i bought it so dont know of any mods that have been made to get them to fit. My cars runnning 8" wide rims so there are no clearance problems, Grant at AWD runs them on his classic too maybe an idea to call him and see whats involved. Col.
bigdavie Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 cheers for all the responses !! been offered them for £500 which i thought was good !!! will look further into it !
neilswrx Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 i have the godspeed brembo kit fitted first you are going to need bigger wheels 17"" at least 16" will not fit (dont even think of fitting 17 on front 16 on rear as someone suggested on some other forum) took on mine 4-5 hours to fit (thanks to checkpoint as they fitted em) some grinding is involved pedal reach is ok on mine brakes are far far better than 2 pots one of the best upgrades you can get
bigdavie Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Davie, that include discs/pads? discs yes pads no !!
drb5 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 So it's gonna set you back about £600+ all in. IMHO i wouldn't bother. Stick to your 4 pots till you find AP's and sell the 4's on to offset the cost. Either that or find some good brand new 6 pot kit. £900 for the Willwoods in this GB... http://bbs.scoobynet.com/wilwood-6-pot-t501109.html
bigdavie Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 cheers for the advice drb5 think i will do that !! looking at those willwoods brand spanking for that price the brembo's dont look such a bargain now lol !!
drb5 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Lol, no worries. There's loads of kit's out there, you just need to have a good search about. A lot of poeple won't touch them, as there mates haven't tried them, or the AP's are only a bit dearer, but if that's all you can afford, i can honestly say, you still won't be unhappy with them. Either stick a post up on that thread, or PM/email Danny. He's a good guy and i'm sure he'll let you know what's what.
