bryan_taylor Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 [au]Wondering if any of you very nice people might be able to give me some advice please?[] Just got my MY06 STi couple of months back, and had an 03 plate STi before that. My Scooby before was running 360BHP/340lb/ft and pulled like a freight train, and to this end I feel my new STi is somewhat lacking in the performance dept. I'm looking at an initial budget of £1500 and my new STi currently has the PPP fitted. I haven't Dyno'd the car yet so I'm unsure as to whether the PPP actually delivers the performance increase it promises. An AF remap is obviously a must at some point and maybe unrealistically I'd like to mod it to maintain it's warranty, reliability and drivability. Any suggestions to mods that would keep it as I've dicussed above and provide the max power increase for my cash would be most appreciated. I'd also be quite happy keeping the same power but changing the torque/power curve characteristics to give a more responsive smoother driving experience. Thanks all in advance.[] Bry
drb5 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 IMHO you should get an APS cold air kit, a full decat exhaust and remap from Andy on an Apexi PFC. That should get rid of that 1500 and should net you some plenty extra power. []
dipsy Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Going by Andy f web site Apexi pfc for 93to 00 scoobys and 99onwrards for ecutek .The thread is on about a 2006 sti or does apexi do ecu for the newage subarus?
drb5 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Doh! Way ahead of myself there. [] My apologies. Indeed and Ecutek IS the way to go. [H]
wilky Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 And people wonder why I drink..................................................................[] Only kidding Dave, are you selling anything Im not going to miss this time?? lol Callum
ANDYJDMSTI Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 did'nt realise the PPP was available yet!!! you live and learn..........is the 10bhp that noticeable from you old car??? []
drb5 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 And people wonder why I drink..................................................................[] Only kidding Dave, are you selling anything Im not going to miss this time?? lol Callum Been a long day Callum. Wuman wants a new car......need i say anymore. [] I'll need to get a list up, but i doubt there's anything you'll miss this time. [] Andy, is that the power it gives?! []
bryan_taylor Posted July 30, 2006 Author Posted July 30, 2006 The 20 odd BHP is noticable, but so is the power when the turbo kicks in. I suppose it may be that on my last car the turbo only really kicked in around 4000 rpm, whereas the new beastie kicks in around 600/700 rpm earlier. I'm also feeling quite clearly the difference between a remapped engine and the stock map in terms of overfuelling, lack of ultra crisp responce etc. Thanks to everyone else for their comments and advise - most appreciated. I'll go the the advise given, but can anyone tell me a nice decat system that ain't too loud but still give good performance? Cheers Bry
drb5 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 No worries Bry. IMHO you can't go far wrong from the 3" system from Revolution. They sell 2 different tailpipes and the oval one is the least loud and still gives a very nice noise. Check here.... www.revolution.eu.com Actually, i can't see them selling their downpipe, when you select the newage, somaybe best to phone them and see what they say.
craigdmcd Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 For the exhaust, it may be expensive, but why not de-cat the up-pipe, and then get a H&S system with the sports catalyst in the downpipe, then the emissions are still legal and you are only 2bhp down on a full decat system. http://www.haywardandscott.co.uk/results.asp?category=13
bryan_taylor Posted July 30, 2006 Author Posted July 30, 2006 Nice one Craig [Y] I'll maybe increase my budget slightly to accomodate it - but if it's as deer as the last H&S system I bought I'll be spending 1k on just the exhaust - LOL. Cheers for the advice mate - it seems like the best option and one I'll maybe hold out for [] Bry
