steve_noon Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Hi All, New to this so please be gentle with me. I am sure this has been asked before but here goes. Just sorting out the brakes on my96 wrx waggon the list so far is:- Mintex 1155 pads, Braided hoses, New discs = http://www.rotordiscs.com/main_page.htm. And DOT 5 brake fluid. Firstly any comments on this set up? Has anyone ever used these discs? Would a master cylinder stopper be a good idea? All help would be greatly appreciated.
J0nah Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Hi and welcome, I have the same mintax pads with Black Diamond grooved disks, does the business for me, except the pads are a bit dusty. (But I'm always cleaning it anyway so aint bothered by that!) Andy
robert_harding Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 one thought. what brakes do you have at the moment, if you are still on two pots, it may be more worthwhile to get yourself a set of 4 pots from a later classic, these have bigger discs as well...294mm instead of 277mm.
steve_noon Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 Cheers guys, I am still running the two pots (PANTS, i know) but since this is my first scooby it is really just a quick fix. I have plans to look for another car, maybe the end of the year. Something a bit more upto date both power and handling wise (I think I have the bug). Even a small increase in brake performance would be an improvement, my brakes are SCARRY!! Steve.
Little H Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Welcome, i am upgrading mine but i have a new age either what Jonah has above or a 330mm conversion
ayde Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I use the 1155's with 4 pots on my MY99 Turbo, I did try the EBC redstuff's but they destroyed a new set of discs and themselves within 8k miles and although they felt very promising at first they really were not that good. So I went back to the 1155's although they are very dusty they perform really well for the price. I get my discs from Camskill - they charge about £88 delivered for the 4 pot disc and will be cheaper for the 2 pot disc IIRC they are about £60 plus p+p (about £8).
steve_noon Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 Cheers guys, thanks for info. From all accounts the mintex are the way to go. Steve.
