From Andy F's Site

"Our preferred solution is to ensure a direct cold air feed to the turbo

at all times. One of the most effective ways to do this is by mounting

the air filter in the void between inner and outer wings. This area is

fed with cold air from the front bumper and is isolated from the hot

area behind the radiator.

Selection of the correct air filter type

is very important as certain models can cause premature mass air flow

meter (MAF) failure due to vibration, dust or oil contamination."

The typhoon fits like that by going through the wing. I was told a normal under bonnet cone filter aint worth the bother when i asked my scooby dealer

These mods are probably decent, but when we're talking about a mod that's not really going to break the bank then buying one that's been well tested by other people from a decent brand is probably a safer best.

Sure you might save £50 now, but when bits of the engine make their exit out the exhuast you'll regret it.

Personally i wouldn't be in a hurry to put one on but i just wondered how much better the more expensive ones are ?

Believe it or not I was talking to a F1 designer today regarding my Subby (well actually about building houses but I had the sub with me so the interesting conversation was about it) .Easiest way for more power is to lower temps. Allow the hot air arround engine to escape (change the hinges to leave a gap at the windscreen edge of thebonnet), FMIC, cold air induction. Then if your really serious oil coolers for engine and gearbox.

Ross,

I had an APS cold air induction kit on my last car.  It's very loud, seems to echo in the wing. But I'd be carefull with the MY00 as they use a K&N Filter and as said above is more than likely to knacker the MAF.

A better option would be to use ducting to catch cold air from the vent below the right indicatior and direct it to the standard air box.  Do a search it's been done heeps of times before.

I wouldn't like to see my old car go pop!!

Unless you want more than around 345hp Ross - I would have stayed with an OE STi Paper filter - MAKE SURE IT IS AN STi one though!

Hmmm, not so good, any chance you can direct me towards getting an STi one then Russel?

Mick at Scoobymania has some in, Failing that, Alyn @ AS Performance (0191 410 3770 - tell him I sent ya!) usually helps me with either these of the next best thing - K&N Panel Filter. I have one in the house somewhere. It has 5K on it and I am sure I can sort you out with it if you haven't got one by the time I return from Singapore (Feck knows when that will be!)
