RA Dunk Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 came off a roundabout tonight floored it about 5-6 k and engine cut out for a split second , just fitted a uprated fuel pump and FPR on friday , any ideas
philip_wilson Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Spooky mine did the same tonight in the B.O.D booted it insecond off the roundabout and it died for a bit then took off like a rocketagain put it down to lack off fuel due to travelling sideways.
RA Dunk Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 yea funny enough mine was in second as well , tank was inbetween 1/4 and 1/2 full , any ideas?
AlanG Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 If you fitted the new pump with the supplied filter it's probably fuel starvation because of the small filter. Remove the pump and re-fit the std filter bag to the new pump
WUZ Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Acid - yours is a UK MY95 car right? Have you got a boost gauge on it? what is your peak boost? Did you fit the OE fuel filter onto the new pump or the smaller new one? How much fuel was in the tank? I thought it might also be due to having the full decat on it and you were getting a boost spike, but from what you describe (ie roundabout) sound like fuel starvation. Russell edited due to me thiking the wrong thing[:$]
RA Dunk Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 err i dont have it anymore , guy who fitted didnt give me the old one back [:S]
philip_wilson Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Yip we need to stop booting it off roundabouts lol. I'm notsure but mines felt like it was about to run out of fuel, but was fine the restof the way home still got about ¼ tank left from a full tank this morning.
RA Dunk Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 Acid - yours is a MY99 car right? Have you got a boost gauge on it? what is your peak boost? did you fit the OE fuel filter onto the new pump? Russell ps - if you haven't got a boost gauge.....................................GET ONE! mines a my95 , yes i have a boost guage (but its sitting next to me here lol) i got sent the wrong pod for it so it never got fitted

euan_r Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 [*-)] Are you supposed to fit old bag onto new pump like? surley new bag would be cleaner. There was a bit of a difference in size though.
philip_wilson Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Ac!d has it happened before? I had the same thing about aweek or two ago but it was on a straight, very slight power cut then fine againnot as bad as tonight, it was like full power then nothing then fine, sayingthat I did stop to see if the engine was still there.
RA Dunk Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 no it hasnt happened before m8 , so that makes me believe it s either the pump FPR or maybe something to do with the full decat i just gave it?
thefastone Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I'm sure that there was somthing about going round corners (Left or right I cant remember) with the fuel being lowish... and the engine spluttering, Mebbe thats yer problem.... Just a thought like... [:$]
RA Dunk Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 dont think the fuel was that low TBH between 1/4 and 1/2 a tank , its never happened before

Just a thought like... [:$] Think that might be it in my case, both times it happened to me I was heading for the petrol station. but still had 1/4 tank left
thefastone Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Yeah the only reason I thought about that Was that it sounds like a fairly localised occurance... ie both going round the same corners etc...
RA Dunk Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 hmmm im going offshore tomorrow im just gonna take it easy on the way through to dyce and the same when i get home then get somebody to check it out when im home again probs simon at japperformance
euan_r Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 thought 4wd models had some sort of method for siphoning between left and right sections of tank involving fuel return pressure. or maybe thats just leggy
gogsie Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Had this at Knockhill coming out of the hairpin. I have a newage and fuel starvation is known to happen even at half tank. TSL now sell an anti surge tank kit for new age - £270 IIRC.
RA Dunk Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 yea but this hasnt happened to this car before (and i like roundabouts ALOT []) so im thinking the car isnt liking some of the things ive just done to it []
gogsie Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Since I fitted my H&S Exhaust I get a sharp drop off in power for a split second. When on RR on saturday Simon pointed out that the boost was spiking due to the free flowing exhaust allowing turbo to spool up real quick.
RA Dunk Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 As long as it doesn’t go bang we will be okay. yea but i dont want it to go bang lol

WUZ Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 The boost spike issue is (obviously) worse in winter with the more "dense" charge. Gogsie never got his restrictor opened out by me as he said he was getting Andy to map it soon so I felt it would be OK in the Summer months and the wee spike would give a better "kick" to the mid-range grunt of the car for the time being. Look like I might have to open it a little! Acid - the most plausible reason why your getting the problem now is that you are using the new filter bag that is smaller and sits a little higher and more horizontal than the OE one. I have also found that some of them face COMPLETELY THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION to the OE one. Russell
