T123VOR Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Stereo/speakers/amps Part 1 (the easy bit) done Headunit/Ipod adaptor/pocket flap fitted Not fully finished as need aerial adaptor but relatively easy to do[Y] Rear door cards off to measure speaker depth- What is this supposed to be? May leave rears all together! NEXT: The big mission[] Amp under seat powering the fronts Amp in boot powering either 8 or 10" sub- im not a bass-hungry geezer really If i keep the rears i'll buy some cheap half decent ones and i'll run them off the HU All the wiring (the scary bit[^o)]) to be done too Thanks for tuning in[] Trevor
granby Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Well done Trevor [Y] but leave the rear speakers as they ain't worth it
darryl_martin Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Looking good mate. Wait til you see what you've got in the front doors[], look more like biscuits than speakers (well mine did). Two things I found, test each speaker as you put it in. Got my passenger side working, all back together, put in driver's side, all back together, turn on and .............nothing than realised windows weren't working either, started to panic a bit. Turns out the drivers side was touching the metal of the door!!!!!!!!!!! took it out and turned it round 60 deg and all works[Y] Now for the treally embarrassing bit ................ I'd managed to push the window kill switch while putting the door back togehter hence no windows[:$][:$] On a slightly different note (no pun intended) am starting to realise how much you must have missed your scoob when it was having work done, and how lucky you were to get a C4. Mine went in today. C1, service guy did apologise, and stressed several times that you can move the seats right back!!!!!! Unusual selling point. Nevertheless, I can touch the passenger window from the drivers seat (without leaning over), could probably get the rear window if I really tried and the bonnet I can easily tuck under one arm. Comedy.[] Hopefully they'll only have it for one day Meant to say I left my rear speakers in, just turned them off with the fader[Y]
T123VOR Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Do you want to borrow my spare scoop? For £10 or so i might as well change the rears- no real grief by the look of it (touch wood!!) For those in the know!!??[^o)] i have a few unanswered bits... The power distribution box -i need to split the amps' power up - do they go in the engine bay or in the foot well? Is it important to run the power down one side and the speaker cable down the other? Looking at it tonight that's going to make it twice as hard I think[] Trevor
darryl_martin Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Scoop looks about the same size as the bonnet!!!!!!! Only car I've seen where the headlights are longer than the bonnet!!!!!!!!!!!![]Thanks for the offer lol. I used to run the speaker cable down either side of the car and the power and rca leads either side of the tunnel in the middle. But i did used to strip the car first. Didn't fancy doing that to the scoob now we are in the world of airbags and sensors everywhere. Mine have all been run down the passenger sill. No ill effects so far
T123VOR Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Oh thats good news! I was having a quick look tonight- where did you go from the back seat area through to the boot? Trevor
darryl_martin Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Will have a look for you. From memory it looked like they go under the plastic cover that covers the bottom of the seat and sill and I'm guessing it covers a metal frame, possibly with a few holes in? (Just tape any cable up when it passes through metal)Then they just feed under the vertical part of the back seat. Just realised I haven't got my bl**dy car so can't check for you!!!!
tony_cousins Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Take it through the space in either corner then under the seat to the trim panal, then route the wiring along the channal to the front of the car [Y] Easy peasy []
T123VOR Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Cheers mate Just to clarify though- the corner of the boot? nearest the back of the seat? Trevor
darryl_martin Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Yep, got mine back now[][] Seat is about the easiest one I have ever taken out!!!! Two bolts at the front, then there's a metal loop on the bottom of the seat that goes under a hook at the back, out and in in 5 minutes. Once the seats out all becomes clear. My wires run just inside a black metal bracket. If you stick your hand up the back of the seat you'll feel like a rubber strip, then you're in the boot[]. To get through the bulk head stick your cable to a metal coat hanger with plenty of tape and there's a big grommet in the engine bay next to the passenger suspension turret. It'll come out just under your glovebox. Then you'll need a fuse near the battery, size dependant on the amps you're going to run[Y]
tony_cousins Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Yes mate thats the place, easy really aint it [] Did you make speaked rings to make greater depth in the front ?? I did so you can fit better speakers in the hole [Y] A nice 1" mdf spacer did it for me [] Tony
darryl_martin Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Was going the MDF route, but had just been paid so was lazy and went for the corsa spacers instead. Managed to get Alpine SPR 17LS in there. Possibly the biggest/heaviest 6.5 inch speaker I've seen[]
aooli Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Was going the MDF route, but had just been paid so was lazy and went for the corsa spacers instead. Managed to get Alpine SPR 17LS in there. Possibly the biggest/heaviest 6.5 inch speaker I've seen[] See Trev you can get 6.5 inchers in there after all.....
T123VOR Posted June 30, 2006 Author Posted June 30, 2006 Part 2 done (the other easy bit) I cut the existing speaker/paper hat out of the speakermount and stuck some pioneer speakers in the back doors No pics - I literally tore the old paper hat out and dremeled the speaker bracket to accept the new speaker drilled 4 pilot holes and screwed the new ones in - a dab of no more nails- back in the door - lit up a Cuban- jumped in the jacuzzi with three hot latino chicks for a soapy ti........ to be continued... Trevor

yogibear Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 a dab of no more nails- back in the door - lit up a Cuban- jumped in the jacuzzi with three hot latino chicks for a soapy ti........ P M S L[][]
T123VOR Posted July 1, 2006 Author Posted July 1, 2006 No the C4 was a courtesy car due to some eejit ramming me up the rearend on the M20- Scooby is back (I missed her [][] x) Here she is all repaired- after i gave her a 4hr welcome back rubdown, shampoo, clay, conditioner, antiwrinkle, wax and polish The C4 was ok though to drive excellent MPG- didnt like the rear window- glass roof though. The gearbox was a bit vague. It's French. And the speedo is 2ft tall in the centre of the screen. Trevor
yogibear Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Glad to see her back M8, and looking SWEET.[] PS. you wasn't looking at a bird when you got hit wer you
