Help! EVAP canister purge valve

Alright people,looking for some info to help a fellow scooby owner.He's got 94 WRX wagon with fault code 35.The code says its the Evaporative emissions canister purge valve,whats this and what does it do?Any help on location,comon faults or anything to do with this would be greatly appreciated.cheers in advance,

It's a solenoid bolted to the inlet manifold which routes fuel vapours and the like which are deposited in the carbon canister to the inlet manifold. There's a picture of a MY97/98 one below, it's hidden beneath the IACV on that manifold. Probably not too far away on the early Phase 1 manifolds.
