T123VOR Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I'd like to feel safe when approaching accident blackspots...[] However I dont want wires everywhere- are these (and for that matter SAtnavs) easy to hardwire in? Still hoping car will be ready for the weekend- fingers-crossed Trevor Saw this on scoobynet- it isnt one of those jumpy things it's real and pretty amazing- if that sort of thing floats your boat...
tony_cousins Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Have you thought about a road pilot ?? They seem to be a little better . As for woring these in permanantly there is no worries it is an easy job [Y]
T123VOR Posted June 14, 2006 Author Posted June 14, 2006 As for woring these in permanantly there is no worries it is an easy job [Y] Talk me through what's involved quickly please mate? Cheers Trevor
tony_cousins Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Well most systems are designed to run off the cig lighter socket so all you have to do is wire them to a permanant live and a negative, I would take the live to the ignition so it comes on when the keys are in, I would also add an inline fuse so that if for any reason something should go wrong it would just blow the fuse. You can do this with both the sat nav and road angel , if i remember correctly you can buy a hard wiring kit which means you wont have to cut any wires yourself. If in doubt mate give me a shout, wont take more than half hour to do [Y] Tony
T123VOR Posted June 14, 2006 Author Posted June 14, 2006 Cheers for that! I was thinking the clock wires? Trevor
tony_cousins Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 No mate the clock wires will not be good enough for the current drain, always best to go to the main wiring loom and with scotch locks makes it easier although I solder my connections Tony
granby Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I have a Origin b2 which is sort of hard wired into the cig lighter
HOL Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 You guys try too hard sometimes. I have two systems of notification in my car; an old fashioned Geodesy that just flashes and beeps when you get close to fixed camera's and a Garmin i3 that I have uploaded with POI's (Point of interest) from the Web.These include all fixed cameras and places where mobiles are known to reside. At £130.00 now the Garmin is a bargain as it is also a GPS Sat Nav. Wiring wise I just bought two cigarette sockets from Maplins (or Halfrauds if you are feeling £3 richer) and wired them in underneath my dash to the back of thee xisting Cigarette circuit. Into these I have simply inserted the plugs of the Geodesey and Gamin (which includes a voltage dropper to 5v). The business end of the leads are run up the back of the dash to the units. No difficult wiring codes to sort out, no reason to damaged the original leads. []
mick_weatherill Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Any one who has the R.A.C Tracker fitted can have the speedcams downloaded to that . It bleeps loud when you approach a speedcam and keeps bleeping until you slow down to the right speed .There is a subscription for this i think it costs £4.50 a quarter on top of the tracker price. But worth every penny if youve got a heavy right foot .(Which i have not cause i dont break the law)[6][]
T123VOR Posted June 14, 2006 Author Posted June 14, 2006 But worth every penny if youve got a heavy right foot .(Which i have not cause i dont break the law)[6][] Me neither this is merely to show me accident blackspots!! Car should be back tomorrow (3 weeks!!) cant wait Hol that is genius I am going to do that I think- cheers Trevor
tony_cousins Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Not something I would do personally I have seen the mess a melted wire causes [] But seeing as Andy has it done like that it must be ok [] Tony
