Looking to get some accomodation up north over a weekend and would like to know if anyone has had a good experience anywhere up the west coast??

Most self catering is booked now on a weekly basis through the summer so it would need to be hotels or B&B's only.

Any ideas???? As far up or as far away from Glasgow would be nice.

Hey mate

My mums from Kyle of Lochalsh, its great up there in the summer.  Plus you are in a good location to go to skye, inverness, etc!

Roads are good fun to!

You will get a B&B there no probs or there is the lochalsh hotel.

Me & the Mrs stayed one night at the MacDonald Kinloch Rannoch recently for our 1st wedding anniversary - cracking wee place and it's about 15 miles off the A9 - the junction is about 10 miles north of pitlochry.

Amazing views over the Loch and a nice cosy wee retreat if your taking a lady friend [;)]

The road from the A9 to the hotel is 'interesting' too. Single track most of the way, long sweeping bends and not a lot of trees/bushes/walls/fences to obscure your view of what might be coming the other way.

Didnt have much chance to sample the road properly though, coz we were inthe Mrs. Pug 206 auto.

The rockvilla in Lochcarron is top class and not too expensive either, the grub and the crack "laughter"[;)] is great too. Highly recommended.

Will even let you take your dog with you if you call in advance

I second loch Carron, amazing scenery and some fantastic roads.

Oobster,

I lived in the Macdonald Loch rannoch hotel for 3 months, 3 years ago. Was working near there even though I only lived an hour away in Pitlochry the company insisted[;)] Got some funny looks pulling up in a works van covered in muck every night!

Chris, I would say it depends on when your going re-booking in advance!!!!

I was up the  west coast Kyle, Skye, Ullapool etc etc... in August last year and had a nightmare getting something last minute (ie on the night!) stayed in the Loch Duich hotel near Eilan Donan Castle and although not the newest of hotels was very welcoming and great food and drink with fantastic views if you get a loch/sea view.

Did over 600 miles in two days on some of the best (emptyish) twisties in Scotland.[;)]

I have a place in Onich that might suit you if you give Mrs MacLean (mother so be polite!) a call. Look on the site link attached if you need more info>

http://www.strathlinnheholidays.co.uk/

Onich is a good base for Fort William, Oban, Glencoe, the Morven area and Mallaig etc. All the other places mentioned above are nice too. Just a note on the Onich Hotel, locals are pretty much banned! 'dont feed the animals' sort of thing.

The scoob is in the car park for the self catering units at my parents place so you can get an idea of what its like>

Either my Mother (the one who nicks my 22B when I take it over) or my Auntie if it was along the road near Corran Ferry, We do a deal for Scooby owners, tell them where all the speed traps are!

Go for a wander into Kinloch Rannoch, only 5 mins from hotel. Theres a tiny bar called the stables behind Dunalistair hotel, usually full of weird and wonderful characters!

Remember and pack your tin flute for dinner, its quite posh or just have a bar meal and get mashed!!
