Ross9 Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Had the Type R on the rollers today after taking a spot on a FifeCruisers RR day. Results were 291BHP (255 @ wheels) and 241 lb/ft Sti4 Type R, Hayward and Scott front pipe and a Blitz Nur Spec R exhaust, HKS panel filter, 1.1 bar Happy enough at 291 though I had hoped to hit the 300 mark, torque seemed a little low though, what should it be as standard? 291 bhp was at 7000rpm 241 lb/ft was at 5000rpm Any comments welcome, operator said the car was running well, no problems except from a split HT lead he found by shocking himself on it, oops, and I'm happy with the way the car drives and performs on the road etc, as I said, any comments welcomed. Ross
fai17 Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 You should look at decat down pipe which makes a big difference with scoobies[]
FastScooby Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Good results.. least you found the screw for the bung [] The de-cat will make a differance i noticed it on mines
RS Grant Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 The NUR Spec R will be back box and centre section... and the 'H&S Front Pipe' will be the de-cat downpipe Peter. [] I wouldn't mind that power from a basically standard car mate, buy a few more mods, buy a Power FC to run it all and then get Andy F to map it for you.. That will see you confortably over 300bhp with a big increase in torque mate. [H] Cheers, Grant
FastScooby Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 Loved the sound of the nur spec, and he didn't want to swap for mines [:S][][] anyone want to swap []
colin_ross Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Good result. As Peter said downpipe will see you crack 300 no problem. Mine was standard apart from a downpipe and fuel pump and made 320 at Dastek.
RS Grant Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Whats a Hayward and Scott 'Front Pipe' then?? Cheers, Grant
Ross9 Posted May 14, 2006 Author Posted May 14, 2006 As Grant says, the Hayward and Scott front pipe also de-cats the car, there is no cat in the system. However, talking to Gerry at Dastek while he was discussing Irish Al's ECUTEK'd scooby he said that the ECU system in them notes det at a certain point in the rev range if it occurs a couple of times at the same point, if so, it then retards the timing at this point the next time, to prevent the det re-occuring as the damage is alreayd done if it occurs. He pointed out that while my 1997 car doesnt have this system, it has a less advanced version, so I was thinking, if I am running on the road with no octane booster, as I only put it in for events (and yes I know it's advised to always use it on a JDM car) and also, if the previous owner had also run it on just octane booster, and more boost (it was set to 1.35 bar when I bought the car) then the ECU might be set to retard it a bit and a reset might have gained a couple more ponies etc? Thanks for any comments. Basically what I am asking is, 291bhp, 255 @ wheels, and 241 lb/ft from an STi4 Type R with exhaust (inc de-cat) and filter, I'm happy with that as it goes well on the road etc but should I have seen more? Cheers Ross
RS Grant Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Haha, I knew I was right!! [] It pays to read a bit more into what someone has said, it should go some way in reducing the chance of giving the wrong type of advice!! lol!! [] To be honest mate, I would be running a JDM on Optimax + Booster in every tank.. I'd be very scared of the thing going bang otherwise!! Do you have a knocklink?? If so, do you see any activity?? What boost are you running at the moment, you say it WAS at 1.35bar.. is it still running that high or have you wound it back?? Cheers, Grant
Gumball Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 thats a nice result[] i was in a new Focus ST225 the other day and i would be concerned slightly at the PTW ratio if my STI was standard. Nice wee car even though it was bright ginger
RA Dunk Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Nice wee car even though it was bright ginger yea ive seen one going around , kind of like a can of irn bru on wheels []
Fee Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 My Type R got 290BHP and 243lbs torque if I remember correctly One cat removed and some big exhaust....not sure what boost it was running So pretty similar results
fai17 Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Whats a Hayward and Scott 'Front Pipe' then?? Cheers, Grant Is the front pipe not the decat pipe or is it the down pipe. If it's the down pipe then why don't you call it just that!! Up pipe.down pipe.front pipe.mid pipe.half pipe.drain pipe.slippers and pipe. It's all very confusing yous know[][]

Cheers, Grant Nah I wound it back to pretty much standard boost (was 1.12 on the rollers) as soon as I got the car. I don't have a knocklink, there was no sign of det at all on the rollers and it was nice and rich at 10.5 AFR. I have e-mailed Andy Forrest though and intend to have a Power FC fitted and mapped asap. I don;t drive it that hard day to day etc just going to work and back, and any time I do go to an event or for a wee play it has octane booster in the same as it was on the rollers, which as I say gave no det during the run.
