TSL 333 Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 My Scooby is getting its wheels powder over the next couple of weeks. My spare and jack are unused and I want to keep them that way(anorak) and so I propose in doing two wheels at once (company can guarantee an exact match) using a trolley jack to support the car (back/ front) while. Where are the best parts to support it. Any photos with annotation would be ideal!! I will posty some befroe/ during/ after pictures for you all when I am done (in gold - again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
G.Mac Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I can lend you some axle stands if you wish to do the whole lot at once Graeme
ANDYJDMSTI Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 When you get the wheels back and have run them for afew days make sure you give them a good check over as there have been a few people had some scary incidents with powder coated wheels cracking.
david_taylor Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I would be very reluctant on leaving the car for any considerable time sitting on a trolley jack. Definatley put axle stands underneath! I have not looked underneath mine as I have only had it 5 months, but there is usually some arrow like thing pointing to the jacking points. If not your handbook should have details.
fai17 Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 I've got two axle stands that you can borrow but you need to come and get them.
TSL 333 Posted May 4, 2006 Author Posted May 4, 2006 Graeme/ Fai - thanks for the offer of the use of your axle stands. I am going to buy some though as it is about time I got some, not necessarily for my Scooby but more for my Peugeot 205 GTI which I use for Hot Hatch days. I ended up using the spare and lowevering the car down as far as possible onto a spare wheel from my Peugeot. Before you ask, the oil leaks are from the Peugeot and the weeding is my wifes job!!! What's this about the wheels cracking? I am worried now........
fai17 Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 You should use the jacking point on the sill and not the diffs....so the subaru thec guy told me.
TSL 333 Posted May 4, 2006 Author Posted May 4, 2006 mmmmmmmmm, ocht well, the wheels are off now!!! Cheers anyway!
STi_Bandit Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 I would not use the trolley jack on the jacking points on the sill, id use the orginal jack supplied by subaru on the cills as it fits into the slot of the sill, where the trolley jack is a flat head and you run the risk of bending the cill jacking point Martin
