jimmyGforce Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 I,v fitted an APS 3" turbo back system with full decat to my P1. Boost is now more erratic. Boost before was around 1.1bar with odd peaks of 1.2-1.3 when boosting up quick in high gears.setting at 1.1 average though. Now its settling at 1.2-1.3 but peaks of 1.5 recorded on defis (where AWD set alarm). Anyway i'm also fitting APR FMIC,Fuel pump and Tek3 remap. Question is about the boost. will remap sort the boost? either holding it steady or compensating with more fuel? Is it the actuator that is kinda slow or somethin? or will i need a elec boost controller to sort it?? phew loads to typing, and i'm so slow [:$] Thanks Brian
dipsy Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Send Andy Forrest an email he will give you the information .Look on Andyforrestperformance for email address
jimmyGforce Posted April 21, 2006 Author Posted April 21, 2006 Thanks i'll try him. It was him i was gonna get for the remap anyway cheers
rapidcossie Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 boost needs brought back down some how... that why majority of p1's/sti blow up.. folks stick the new exhaust on, it rasies the boost and bang
johnnyr6 Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 If fueling etc. is ok p1's and sti's can handle 1.5 bar. decat seems to have this effect on later classics. if you don't have an uprated pump and reg you may run lean so defo worth getting it checked by andy.
wilky Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Its caused by the reduction in backpressure by de restricting the way the engine get rids of exhaust gas, the cars ecu thinks, wait a minute! I need to work harder now to make the same boost, and if your fuelling is still set to the way it was, as the turbo works harder to get the boost, then the correct amount of fuel wont be delivered and the car goes lean, causing all the dramas mentioned. Remap is the best option, or an increase in fuel pressure until that gets done via a decent pump and a fuel pressure regulator. best option obviously is to change the way the car thinks, ie an ecu remap.
jimmyGforce Posted April 22, 2006 Author Posted April 22, 2006 Thanks for all the advice peeps. It'l be going in for remap as soon as i can get a filter to fit FMIC (see other post!!) I'll take it easy till then to be safe. []
wilky Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 As long as you are drawing decent cold air via whatever, it should all be fine, If your in Clackmanan I know a man in Edinburgh who will sort your induction out. This guy does alot of work for Andy F. Enough said. Sensible guys sensible prices. SSW Engineering, PM me and Ill pass on the details. Callum W
Hepy Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 P1's can peak at 1.5 ok. Well they better as that's what AndyF set mine to.[] But if you decat your P1 you definately need a remap as if you don't it could all end in tears.
iain_ogston Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 When my RA had the original WRX RA engine in it, and I fitted decat pipes and headers, boost went from peaking at 0.9 bar (factory ECU limit setting) to just under 1.1 bar (going by my greddy gauge) so I'd assume the increase in boost is normal with an exhaust upgrade. Decreased back pressure meaning boost spikes before the ECU gets it under control.
johnnyr6 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Unusual to see an increase in phase 1 cars, i didn't get any increase on my sti2 (although power went up a bit)
