STi_Bandit Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I know that once all the exhaust mods are done and other engine mods to the car ill need a remap to bring all the bits together, my question is how far can i go with the mods in terms of the saftey of the engine before a remap is required. At present i Have the Afterburner Centre Section and backbox and iam looking to do the followiing engine mods :- TSL Sports Cat Downpipe Afterburner Mid Pipe Green Panel Filter Walbro 255 Fuel pump Iam i best doing these in one big go and get a remap or is the anything iam missing on on me mods list what kind of BHP would i be expecting from this setup ?. Martin
ANDYJDMSTI Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Get it all done in a oner then it saves going back and shelling out more for map tickles. if you get it all done in a oner then just be gentle with the car until mapped i.e no driving like a tool!!!! []
colin_ross Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 There must be loads of cars running about with a similar spec to yours and no remap. Do you have any way of monitoring det at all (knocklink)? Before I had my motor mapped I ran the same spec but with a adjustable fpr so I could up the fueling to compensate for the improved breathing of the filter and exhausr mods. I had no det and no problems at all. Oh yes and 320bhp [H].

STi_Bandit Posted April 6, 2006 Author Posted April 6, 2006 The car is standard so ive no way of monitoring the det, are you recommending an adjustable Fuel pressure regulator if so what one. Or is the map still the best idea, as the PPP to draw comparsion to has decat downpipe, stainless steel exhaust and uprated fuel pump yet no adjustable FPR. Martin
ANDYJDMSTI Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 As far as i am aware PPP has a high flow cat in the downpipe, well at least when i had it on my uk300 it did. Also IIRC PPP has a reprogrammed ECU []
st3ph3n Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Bandit, PPP also involves either a map or a swap of the ECU itself for a pre-mapped unit. Anyone care to confirm or deny?
wilky Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Rgr that, a ppp is an ecu which has been mapped with the generic prodrive map and the rest of the package is supporting mods. The mods you are planning will not really have much of an effect on your power output, apart from the decat which allows more power by derestricting the exhaust, however they will give you the ability to run more power once your cars ecu has been remapped, either with a software reflash or by replacing the whole ecu with an aftermarket one which is reprogrammable.. As well as a walbro i would also plan a fuel pressure regulator to allow you to step over the standard 2.2 bar that the standard one allows. Changing the way the car "thinks" is one of the most dramatic changes you can make to a subaru so its important you have the mods to support this. Its good to see your on that road. Callum W
johnnyr6 Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 What year is your car? If early an aftermarket ecu is the way to go ( i know of a gems if interested). If later you can remap the standard ecu. As for how far you can go, over 400 on a standard unmappable ecu (my96 sti2) has been done. But not recommended unless you know what your doing with scoobs.
gus the bus Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Folks, am I not right in thinking that with the TSL sportcat that you replace the centre section with a classic centre section as the sportcat is longer than downpipe and cat pipe together??? The H&S one however is just the size of the downpipe and catpipe together. Worth remembering if you have already spent dosh on your centre section. Gus
STi_Bandit Posted April 7, 2006 Author Posted April 7, 2006 Aww dear What if i was to get the TSL Downpipe, TSL Decat Centre and Group N back box would that work any want to buy a Vortex Backbox and centre section lol Martin
gus the bus Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Martin, If you went for TSL Downpipe, classic centre section (which isn't actually a decat on the newage as the centre on the newage is just a resonator box) and group N back box thats all you would need. check what they say on their e-bay site its more informative than their "standard website" Gus
STi_Bandit Posted April 7, 2006 Author Posted April 7, 2006 Gus, Looks like it it TSL Downpipe, then Decat Mid Section '93-'00, then back box so i wouldnt mind that as an exhaust system as long as it passes the OLD MOT hehe. Martin
gus the bus Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Yip thats what I meant by the centre/mid section. Its a cat in the classics but not in the newage[] good system! I was gonna go for that but spent cash else where[:$] so currently got the replacement catpipe and de-resonated centre section ( both getting fitted the morra[]) but will probably eventually replace the downpipe n catpipe with either a Meercat 100 cell or a H&S 100cell. Gus
STi_Bandit Posted April 7, 2006 Author Posted April 7, 2006 i love the noise mines makes now with the centre section removed youll hear it at long last (at the next meet), you bring your scooby to the meet like to see how low teins fitteed is. But i do fancy a full TSL system Downpipe to Backbox [] was looking at the pulse system but no to sure about that Martin
gus the bus Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Will be there next Wednesday mate![] nae saxo noo[:$][] Gus
fai17 Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 I would get a Full Meercat Snakehead Catted Downpipe and 3 inch system with a tail pipe if your choice. No worries and the job will be a good one.Plus it's a fitted price that Wullie will give you. Ask me,G Mac,AndyJDMSTI,Wilky,Gumball and Greersport if you are not sure about the Quality of Meercat.
