scoobycol Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Hi Folks Not been on here for a while - things have changed! While I've been away I have purchased a lovely 22B which I purchased in the South of England. It had hardly ever seen rain and was kept in a heated garage which was tiled and had a carpet! Now the poor thing is being hammered by me around the soaking wet Scottish roads with grit and salt all over them and the alloys look totally knackered. The salt seems to be eating into the alloy through the paint and reacting with the huge amounts of brake dust that the car produces. So I'm searching around for an extremely good wheel refurb place. I'm told these wheels are worth £1k each! Don't know if that's true but it was a Scooby specialist who told me. I have visited one wheel place but he only had one colour of gold and it was much darker than the 22B wheels. A friend showed me his refurbed wheels which cost £40 per wheel but the laquer finish was all orange peel effect and he admitted he wouldn't take my wheels there. So, does anyone know of the best place for a perfect finish and who will have the correct Subaru colour of Gold? I'm in the Glasgow area. Ta Colin
oobster Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Only experience i've had with wheel refurbishment was with a company up Dundee way called Coatech. Their number is 01241 854 911. Ewan i think is the guy to speak to. I was very happy with the work done. 22B eh? Nice one. Geez a shot?
oobster Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 P.S. this thread might be helpful too! http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/629579/ShowPost.aspx
chris_c201 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Auto-Image on Gt Western Road - 0141 - 333 - 0575. I got my wheels done there (£40 a wheel), i'm happy with the finish but its up to yourself, when i went in they showed me some examples of wheels they had done so you can see what their work is like.... Never seen a 22B on the road, i'll keep an eye out for you!
scoobycol Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 Thanks. I'll bear them in mind. They're a bit far away. Maybe someone knows somewhere a bit closer. Yeah - dream machine. Never thought I'd ever afford one and now I'm trashing it on the Scottish roads! I thought my old STi2 was amazing but the 22B is in a different league.
scoobycol Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 mmm my reply came back in the wrong order. I was meaning Dundee's a bit far. I'll try Autoimage and see their work. The 22b wheels seem a lighter gold than normal. My old STi is stuck in the garage, so can't compare them in sunlight yet.
vicki Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Hi A while back someone mentioned a bodyshop in Strathaven. Don't know if they refurb wheels tho. They are on Station Road 01357 528899. Might be worth a call [*-)]
jcscoob Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 You should read this thread to ! http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/648197/ShowPost.aspx
scoobycol Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 That's worrying! Wouldn't want that to happen on my 'spirited' drive home at night!
z1000 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 My local tyre place sends them to a company called prestige who only work on proper wheels ( no nasty halfords jobs) and return them to new condition. Not sure if they have a website but worth a search.
AlanG Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Scoobycol I'd mail that guy that owns the car in the "three wheels on my wagon" thread just in case. If anything went wrong with yours (god forbid), it would be a nightmare i think trying to source another genuine set.
scoobycol Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 Thanks for all the info guys. I'll contact "three wheels" to get the inside info.
scoobycol Posted April 1, 2006 Author Posted April 1, 2006 I've been phoning round the places everybody has recommended but they all just have one shade of gold. One place told me there are about 8 shades of Subaru gold and he knew his shade is darker than the 22B's. They are a very light gold. Two places have recommended getting them painted rather than powder coated because you can then get an exact match. As I've never looked into this before I don't know if there's any particular pros and cons to this. Anybody know?
scoobyseller555 Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 phone me 2morrow m8 and i'll give you the number of the mobile 'wheel wizard'guy that we use at the garage, first class job and he comes to you,so your not without your wheels! 01324 605100 Gav
