gus the bus Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 I recently fitted sti 8 alloys to my car courtesy of Gav. The wheels are fitted with OE spec Bridgestone Tyres RE040-225/45/17's has anybody else experienced bad tram-lining with these tyres? Never had any bother with the 215/45/17's on the WRX wheels. At first I thought it might have been the tyre pressures as the wheels have been lying around for a while. Checked them and they were out and setting them right made "SOME" improvement but still feel some twitching. I was gonna go for Toyos when the tyres are goosed but might just change them sooner.[] Anyone else had problems? Geometry was set recently (prior to fitting these wheels) to Prodrive settings would this affect this? should I get a fast road setting instead? Any feedback would be appreciated. Cheers Gus []
Gumball Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 i know that the bridgestones from what i have seen and heard can be naughty for tramlining. i use toyo R's and dont have any of that behaviour. there seem to be plenty of peeps that like the bridgestones so im sure you could sell them once you have the new rubber fitted and release the true ability of these cars
gus the bus Posted March 28, 2006 Author Posted March 28, 2006 Chris, Thats what I'm gonna go for mate! Used them on previous cars with great effect. Just wondering if I had a problem with the car rather than the tyres???? .......but ran perfectly on the 215's. Anyone else? Gus
gus the bus Posted March 28, 2006 Author Posted March 28, 2006 Any pics with the wheels on Gus? Not yet mate! I'll get some tomorrow night once I've cleaned it! Its mingin the noo[:$] Spoiler and splitter now back on too[] Gus

[6]

wrxmania Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 RE-040's crap - but RE-050's I have found to be very good. Ditch them and sell them on. Brian []
zeolite Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 bridgestones are poo IMHO. tramlining, noisy and worst of all their wet performance is pathetic. Do NOT buy them!
gus the bus Posted March 28, 2006 Author Posted March 28, 2006 RE-040's crap - but RE-050's I have found to be very good. Ditch them and sell them on. Brian [] Likewise Brian I've found the RE050's to be fine (or better than the 40's)! Dont rate these 040's if this is how they handle! Just been having a wee look @ alternatives and the Toyos or Goodyears seem to be the thang![] with good prices on the toyos. Wasn't planning on changing the tyres just now but its p*ssing me off so the sportcat might just have to wait until later[] Any other tyres folks would recommend or I'm I best with the Toyos or Goodys? Gus
FastScooby Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 i have the same thing with the yoko's... fine when i had the 205/50/16's on now i have 215/40/17's there is tramlining... think i will have to go with 205's instead
stephen_fergus Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Hi Gus, I bought the charcoal Ex-WR1 wheels which had RE040s on them ,for my Classic , last year and found that they tramlined really badly.. Like you I tried all sort of tyre pressures etc .. but gave up [:|] Fitted Eagle F1s - CAN'T RECOMMEND THEM HIGH ENOUGH! [H] Great handling in the wet and dry in comparison with the Bridgestones which were meant to excellent in the dry but a bit twitchy [] in the wet. As Brian says tho, the RE-O50s different kettle of fish.. MUCH better [] Cheers, Steve
fai17 Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 I had Re-040 when i bought the car and they are gash[] then i changed them to Toyo and what a difference they made. The toyo are grippy and quiet. Now i have 225/40/18 Goodyear F1 GSD3 on my OZ wheels and they are very good but quite noisy on the motorway so when it's time to change i think i will be going back onto Toyo again[]
RS Grant Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's everytime for me... Have never let me down and never failed to surprise me how much grip and control they give you, especially in the wet. [H] Cheers, Grant
gus the bus Posted March 28, 2006 Author Posted March 28, 2006 Folks, thanks for all your responses re-tyres[] I think i'l get some quotes for the Eagle F1's and Toyo's. What prices have you guys paid for 225/45/17's?. Cheers Gus
paulc555 Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Gus Give Jim Dickson in Cumbernauld a buzz......he sorted me out with mine for mucho cheapness asda price[]....and a free bottle of plonk for getting 4 at once[<)].....pity i dont drink eh.....[]
gus the bus Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 Thanks Paul, do you have a number per chance[] Gus
andy Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Had real problems on the last car with Bridgestone and tramlining.......changed them for Goodyear F1 GS-D3 tyres and they were fantastic...will be changing the tyres on the new chariot soon and will be going for Goodyears again....NO Hesitation.... I went for F1's too after recommendations on here and wouldn't try anything else now. I noticed very quickly when you hit standing water (as you tend to do on the M9!) there isn't that "surge" when you first hit. They just seem to run right through it without any feeling of change at all. EDIT: I paid £360 for all four at Jims, fitted.
