st3ph3n Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 My face is literally hurting from smiling and laughter. About an hour ago I "finished" my car and I've taken it out for a wee spin. LITERALLY. The drift tyres, diffs and what not mean that it is so easy to drift. What you see in those videos is pretty much what i've been able to do. Maybe not with such prescise skill, but near enough. I've not painted the body yet, so it's currently see through, so no pictures as yet. But I'm sure a wee demo could be arranged for the next Glasgow meet. I've only got one battery at the moment so it'll be quick goes for anyone that wants a shot. I can highly recommend these for the child and indeed the 24 year old who doesn't want to grow up.
john_robertson Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 What did you buy? and what spec motor/batteries etc you running? John.
G.T. Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 how much was your rc car stephen sounds like good fun
st3ph3n Posted January 30, 2006 Author Posted January 30, 2006 I'm not sure if the kit is available in the UK as yet. I came across it on ebay whilst bored one lunch time, and 10 minutes of deliberating later I'd bought it. It is a Tamiya TT-01D kit, with an Impreza WRC2005 Body etc.. I'm not into my RC cars, but from what I read the TT-01 chassis is quite a popular one, and the TT-01D variant includes upgrades for the motor and stuff, as well as the extra hard tyres for drifting. I went out yesterday morning and bought the controller, battery and charger. Oh and some black paint as I'm going to do it in my colours and not in WRC livery. Here's what it currently looks like:
john_robertson Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 The TT o1 chassic has been about for a couple of years now IIRC, Tamiya just keep modifying the parts to make it more suitable for different kits. The good thing is that you should have little or no problem finding spares/upgrades, nice to see it has been supplied with the CVA shocks and a motor heat sink, are the CVA shocks the oil filled versions? A little tip for the bodyshell, to round the arches nicely use some sandpaper and either tape it or stick it to a drinks/deodarant can etc ( basically what fits the wheel arch best) then use that to round off the arches as any strange shapes tend to end up as weak points, also you can get extra foam pads for the front bumper, use these to fill out to where the shell sits and it should help to make the shell last a little longer. Credit card alert http://www.modelsport.co.uk/ http://www.apexmodels.com/ DMS Racing Upgrade heaven I've used all of these guys in the past and the service is generally really good i.e.48hrs max John.
dougster Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 OT: and they laugh at the Dougster for actually playin golf at Championship courses!!!!!!!!!! WTF are the picures on your wall about !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Ernie, Muirfield 2002 and Tod, Troon 2004)???
st3ph3n Posted January 30, 2006 Author Posted January 30, 2006 One of my mates made a comment about the arches. They're not tidy yet, but it is just the sanding to do, and some of what you see is the protective film too. I've not hacked away too far! The shocks, which my now quite sore fingers lovingly put together, are the oil filled type. And they come with excellent red springs. Very bling. If you look very carefuly on the right of the picture you can see the shell for my Mud Blaster. A car I built in I think 1993 when I was just 12! I'm going to get it back in working order too! I'll hopefully paint the car during the week. Thinking about a rear spoiler to match my own rather than the WRC one. Not really sure how I could build one though. And for Dougster - The posters came free in a packet of golf balls from what I remember. They're my brothers, I'm more of a top flite man myself, rather than Titleist. The top poster is Woods of course. It's a great picture. Just needed something to decorate that bit of wall really. There's a nice picture of the 17th at Sawgrass somewhere in the house too. But then I've played Sawgrass.
john_robertson Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Stick in a 10x2 for some serious fun just don't blame me when you run it into a curb ok John.
