Guest CRAIG D Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 hi people, iv just got a 95 wrx sti from japan and iv heard loads of storys sayin that i need a new ecu and remap in order to run on uk fuel ie opitmax. is this true?? cos am actually scared in case i blow the engine is its true, were the best place to go in scotland?? thanks for the time
l5tuy Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 That does seem to be true, people say you need to use higher octane or the engine COULD go pop. However two of my mates have old skool wrx's and they are running standars fuel with no drastic consequencies (excelent spelling, i know) loose a little bit of power thats all!!
dipsy Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Optimax and octane booster or Apexi ecu remaped and sold by Andy forrest
Guest CRAIG D Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 cool, so much are we ruffly talkin about for a apexi ecu etc etc??
neilswrx Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 agree with dipsy had many agruments over this one but from the experts like A Forrest optimax +boost highly recommened
jcscoob Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 About 850ish fitted and maped ! cheeper if you dont get a handset (but wots the point in that)
neilswrx Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 might be cheaper if there is a few of you to save on his travel costs yep you will want the handset
dipsy Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Andy's workshop is at Seton port near Edinburgh
Guest CRAIG D Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 hmm very intersting just had a wee look at the website if andy. bloody hell he knows his stuff so optimax and booster is a short term thing but the car will still run ok. but in the long term a new ecu etc etc is needed. what sort of booster etc is best?
neilswrx Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 you could try fleabay(ebay)for an apexi ecu sure there,s a few other recommendations for ecu,s out there must go for a drink birthday tamorrow ta
Guest CRAIG D Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 so i take it is in a bottle and uv got to add so much per litre rite??
dipsy Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 I bottle treats 50litres of Fuel well i stick it in 60 litre tank ie in fuel tank first then fill up with optimax
Guest CRAIG D Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 rite i better be stackin up on these boosters where the best place to buy
Guest CRAIG D Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 cool m8, my mission is to get me sum booster at the weekend. take it just running optimax on its own is no use
the squiggle Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 The std ECU in a import 95 car is a Z4, lift the panel in the pax footwell and the sticker on the outside should state Z4. If you are in luck and it has not been removed then you can run it on Optimax alone The Z4 contains a very similer fuel and ignition MAP to the UK Prodrive ECU of the same year so this means the import Z4 is the most suitable to run on UK fuel It is generally other factors that make the engine go pop! Oil getting in the inlet tract and causing Det Inlet charge temp getting to high and causing Det Failing MAF sensor causing the AFR to lean out Taking the car over 100mph for a prolonged period of time, this causes the charge temp to rise pretty quickly. The slanty phase 1 intercooler in the 95 is not the most efficient in the world and over 100mph the air starts to miss the smallish scoop on the bonnet. The cars were limited to 112mph in japan. Grant
Guest CRAIG D Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 perfect il have a wee check tomorrow and see if its the z4 ecu and if it is then il run it on opitmax only. thanks there is a oil temp and pressure gauge on the dash of the car so that should indicate a probs rite
johnnyr6 Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 like grant says, check out the ecu, then if unsure before you go throwing lots of cash at it get it checked out ona rolling road. If your central, try dastek, very good guys there. My import STI2 has a decat exhaust and ran perfectly on the rollers with optimax alone.
Guest CRAIG D Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 think thats what am gona do m8. take it to dastek and see what they cum up with. thanks for ur help
ANDYJDMSTI Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 I would also recommend shelling out a £100 or so on a knocklink. Then you can see the knock/ det activity in the engine. Again try fleabay
