Edinburgh-Chris Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Hi guys, My time has come to seek advice on my rev problems. My car is now in its final stages of installing all my expensive parts and then off to Andy F for mapping but i am left perplexed with one really annoying problem. following the installation of a Blitz dual Atmospheric blow of valve, my revs have been slightly erratic under certain driving conditions. if i boot the car and then stop at lights or a juction, the car almost cuts out due to the revs droping to almost 400rpm. I have sent a few E-mails to some guys in Japan and they firstly commented that this is generally a characteristic of atmospheric BOV's. Secondly the installation of the unit described below will ensure adequate correction. Has anyone ever used or installed one of these prior to me ordering it? I am aiming this question at the guys with technical knowledge but willing to listen to everyone for advice, there was a post in her recently regarding someone sending their BOV back assuming a fault was to blame. Thanks in advance people, Best Regards, Chris HKS EIDS The HKS EIDS has been developed to buffer dramatic airflow meter signal fluctuations. By buffering these fluctuations the EIDS prevents engine stalling or stumbling associated with sudden imbalances in air/fuel ratio of airflow meter-equipped vehicles that utilize atmosphere venting blow-off valves.
drb5 Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 I've seen these for sale on Ebay and considered it for my old RA, but i think you'd be better off sorting the dump valve which sounds like it is the cause of the problem. Saves you spending all the money.
ormiboy Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 yip agree with drb mate, a stabilizer sounds like a good idea overall but you might be using it to cover an issue rather than fix it. the chaps at extreme motorsport in whitburn have the buddy club unit installed on an evo and they rekon it was worth the £100. have considered one myself as ive noticed my revs do a dance when my subs running loud, but im a cheapskate, i just turn it down! as for the hks device, id prob stick to a general voltage stabilizer as then you are inproving the earthing and giving voltage stabillty to all your sensors rather than just the airflow meter.
mazheriqbal_mohammed Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Hi Chris I have seen the EIDS device advertised on ebay seems like it would answer the problems associated with the Blitz BOV's (been having the same problem with mine!). Was intrested to see if anyone had used them on a scoob with any success?? << id prob stick to a general voltage stabilizer as then you are inproving the earthing and giving voltage stabillty to all your sensors rather than just the airflow meter. >> Has anyone tried a voltage stabilizer for such a problem? I was wondering that if the BOV idling problem is associated with the airflow sensor, could it just be worth replacing the sensor to remedy the problem?
wilky Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Just a quick one, and this may be a wild card but have you checked the rubber gromit in your idle control valve. I suffered similar problems with my silver wrx a few years ago, turned out to be the rubber valve was perforated. The idle control valve is situated on the back of your inlet manifold and to the right as you look at it from the front. Remove it from the manifold and inside against the manifold is the rubber valve. Check that if you havent already. Callum W
