Please help me settle a debate at work, ive told then my scoob is going to get louder when i remove the cats and the response

"According to the rules of physic Noise is wasted energy so in theory a noisy car is using more energy than i quiet one" i know this sounds stuipd but help me retailate,

Who said noise is wasted energy? Not true not even close. The reason it gets louder is there is less material in the form of cats to absorb the noise not its wasting energy to make a noise............. trust me these guys are not scientists. Remeber energy cannot be created or destroyed you merely transfer the stored energy so in theory of its easier to expel the gasses then you would have more potential energy to propel your car.

Hows that

the noise is the resultant not the catalyst therefore it doesnt use energy.

if the noise could be used as a fuel and you werent, then that would then be a waste.

if you bottle the noise and sell it then youd be driving a ferrari not a scoob!!!

Have you taken into consideration the Rate Coefficiant and Kinetic Theory?

If the Osmotic Pressure is constant, then the Thermal Conduction (in keeping with the Boltzman Constant of k=1.3807) should not result in loss of random thermal motions any electrons.

Noise power is based on the thermal noise power at the input of the system, along with system gain and noise figure.

Quite simple really.

You could always just tell them to p*** off!!!!!!! face-icon-small-tongue.gif

Ok to settle it all, say " Sound is carried in wave's like ripples in water. The cat is like if you put something in the way of the wave it will slow the wave down plus change it's frequency(air displacement or noise). Due to the energy used to vibrate the internal parts of the cat, this would be some of the enegy lost so in theroy if you where to put a strait pipe from turbo to outlet you would have one hell of a noisy system not legal though. lol

Simply

So straiter the system the quicker the (Gas)noise flows out, less blockage.

Though there will be energy transfered to the body, through vibration via clamping of the system.

or go with Dougster and say p**s off

Your car getting louder isn't the only energy change that takes place when you de-cat it.

You are removing the restrictive cat(s) from your exhaust which sap kinetic flow and heat energies from the gases leaving your turbo. By removing the cats your exhaust gases carry a whole lot more energy to the tailpipe. The extra noise is a small by product.

noise doesnt = power

i took out the mid box on my ctr and fitted a abp mid pipe

superb noise = big loss in mid range torque

was going to refit mid box but welded studs snapped

and i cant be bothered drilling them out

More noise means more air flowing through exhaust, more air flowing through exhuast means more energy pushing car forward!
