G.T. Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 when im on the forums its as if its freezong all the time. i keep having to log out and log on again or shutting it down to get back on was just wondering if this is a common thing, its a bit of a pain after a while
4Hero Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 mine is very slow, 2 meg bb and it still takes ages sometimes. Get lots of errors too in firefox and have to reload the page to get it to work. Thought of PHPBB admin?
andy Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Yeah - they're s***, but don't ask about the "new software" - those topics get ignored
phil Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Get ignored .................... Really We have a new server and the new software is in the final stages of implementation
4Hero Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 regardinng the firefox error, here it is: Forum Error An error has occurred. If you wish to notify the administrator please click here. To go back to the main forum page please click here. ERROR: An error occurred while evaluating the expression: FTVAR_WORD=caller.FTDIC_WORDS[attributes.wordid] Error near line 1, column 547. The element at position 8 in dimension 1 of object "caller.FTDIC_WORDS" cannot be found. The object has elements in positions 1 through 515. Please, modify the index expression. The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of (CFSET), occupying document position (1:541) to (1:596). look forward to the new software
oobster Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Yea i get that a lot too 4hero. BUT.... can i just say.... the guys that are implementing the new software do not get paid to do it - they are giving up their free time after work/holidays/weekends etc. I think we should maybe cut them a WEE bit of slack! P.S. Scoobynet isn't up 24/7 remember!
G.T. Posted January 9, 2006 Author Posted January 9, 2006 thought it might have been because i was at work earlier but its doing it at home too
wrxmania Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 SIDC has issues at times, but it is 100% way more reliable than Scoobynet has ever been in my years of using it (IMHO of course). Do a search on here for threads with "Is Scoobynet down" in the title and you'll see. Good work to the guys who are doing the shiftto new software/server. We can wait... Brian
dougster Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Nice one Brian. Too many newbie's with little history!! SIDC incorporating Scottish Scoobies is still the best drivers club in the UK.
andy Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 << Get ignored .................... Really We have a new server and the new software is in the final stages of implementation >> Sorry, but.... Ignored Ignored Having a new server means nothing. Unless you're using co-location with access to decent bandwidth, somebody is hosting this at the end of a crappy line and no matter how fast the server is, nothing will improve. Like your Scoob it's only as fast as the slowest part - in this case the connection out to the Interweb. I've pretty much given up on this site due to constant errors, crap speeds and unfulfilled promises of improvement. PS. Who are your beta-testers for this almost implemented software and what is their feedback????
phil Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Thanks for the support Andy We of course have time to read every post !! You can of course email the right people if you want a response by return I can assure you the connection of the new server looked after by Titan will be plenty fast enough The reason for the delays are that we are moving to another forum software not the upgrade of this one We want to bring all the information across so we have to be patient I have been assured that it will not be long now
G.T. Posted January 9, 2006 Author Posted January 9, 2006 dougster was merely asking a question wasnt complaining about the service or anything else thanks for explaining that phil
dougster Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Gareth, I was commenting on Brian's (WRXmania) reference to Scoobynet? What is it with Ayrshire and paranoia?
andy Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 << I have been assured that it will not be long now >> I'd support this 100% if i actually saw anything happening! Who are your beta testers who are going to make sure this works properly when it goes live? If nobody then I'll volunteer.
phil Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Andy It is very frustrating when comments such as "I've pretty much given up on this site due to constant errors, crap speeds and unfulfilled promises of improvement. " are made THE GUYS WORKING ON THIS DO SO IN THEIR OWN TIME AND AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE As for testing the transfer from old to new has already been tested and is working What remains is the skinning of the BBS and then the actual transfer SO PLEASE JUST A LITTLE LONGER
ANDYJDMSTI Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 So you get afew error messages...................big deal!!!! there are still plenty of people racking up some big post counts in a short space of time so it cant be all that bad Have not been on Scoobynet for ages myself but as Brian said it was a real pain in the ar$e alot of the time. Go try it out if you really can't hack it here!!! At the end of the day we are going to be getting something new...........show some patience, the guys have a hard enough job as it is and SIDC is not just about Scottish Scoobies either. nitey nite
IanJ Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 I have offered by mail and by posting and had nothing back (Except from yourself Phil) I just figured the guys were busy. We do have to remember that they are volunteers and have day jobs. Building a reliable application is no easy task even if you have £££ and resources to throw at it (Just ask Micro$oft, or my employers )
phil Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Its not lack of offers [esp from the Scottish Scoobies] I appreciate its frustrating at times believe me we have all been through it but we are nearly there We will then be looking for moderators and other assistance New Shop
andy Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 << We do have to remember that they are volunteers and have day jobs. Building a reliable application is no easy task even if you have £££ and resources to throw at it (Just ask Micro$oft, or my employers ) >> That's cool, but promises of "soon" have been going on for yonks. I promised my users I'd relaunch the biggest motorbike Trials website on the net on 1st Jan. 30th Jan I was still fannying about. 31st myself and my assistant worked 18 hours then 1st Jan we worked 11 hours to make sure it happened. If you make promises then you gotta fulfill them or else folk go elsewhere. BTW, after we finished we got completely and totally w***ered.
dougster Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Andy, Phil, it was one of the reasons I resigned. I was the one giving out the tired answers of the 'new software'. I look forward to the change.
phil Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Well forgive me Doug but I don't recal the new software as one of the reasons but hey perhaps I am being forgetful and to be fair I have never given dates Now I need to get back to giving access to the Members area to those that have requested it Good night gentlemen and I promise VERY SOON
