only 9 days to go ..............................

Afternoon,

I have been thinking, which i know is dangerous in itself. its the new year and with the new year comes new things in most cases. However.......... i know that in 9 days time i will have to endure another glasgow meet whereby Cyanide and bamboo shoots into my toenails comes in the shape of another mundane meet in the dreary surroundings of the "brewers droop" in Stepps. the apparently most central RV for all glaswegians.lol. if i leave now i should get there for the 12thface-icon-small-tongue.gif

Im seriously hoping that we will be able to do something exciting this year in our region other than look at each other for a few hours until we feel a bit seedy and drive home.

I might go, i might not. i remember when there was about 40 people at our meets and we all had more to talk about than who was a d1ck and it was a good thing to attend. whats happening.................?

bring back hillington and the laugh we once used to haveface-icon-small-smile.gif

I have to give Ed back his 51mm drill bit so I am going, but I may be forced to prize the top off of my fake tooth and bite into the cyanide capsule.

Stepps is like Colditz, lets go somewhere else, somewhere im not looking for a beam to throw a rope over.

And lets have a bit of fun, I know its not allowed but stuff it I fancy smiling for a change.face-icon-small-wink.gif

Dont get excited billy, Im not having a dig at you, your heart is in the right place, but lets go somewhere nice.

Totally agree with you there Chris, stepps is not the handiest place to meet the Glasgow boys, unless youre name is Karps who stays 2 mins away(no offence Noel).

What about keeping these brain numbing meetings where nobody talks and no organising is addressed to a specific date of the month bearing in mind Ayr meets are at the same time every month!!!

What about East Kilbride?

What about Busby?

What about Newton Mearns?

What about Paisley?

What about Dumbarton/Helensburgh?

What we need to do is go the the people because the way it has been going in the past is not encouraging new members at all and in most cases losing members attendance.

I remember the meets of old 3years ago when i met the original bunch ( you know who you are) and we were made to feel welcome.

The last meet i attended i thought to myself if i was a new member and made to sit here like a total pr!ck would i return.

NO.

Lets ALL make an attempt to help out our ROs and make suggestions to them and address the new members and those we have not met before.

Good thread starter for 2006 Chris.

as Callum mentioned, its not directed at you Billy. Its a cry out for help for us to move location to somewhere that isnt dungfunnel.

it costs me about £10 to get there and home, and i wouldnt mind spending it if we actually had a purpose and a nice location to discuss it in. the pimmelhoffen staff in the brewers droop are cants too while im at it lolface-icon-small-wink.gif

The hillington, lets do something campaign

I've only been to one meet and must admit I didn't talk to that many people and have to say felt welcome by some and not by a few. It doesn't help that I'm not the most forward person. I expected lots of climbing in and out of cars seeing different mods and seeing nice bits and pieces. You know....ooh thats nice, how much was that, do you have any more, could you fit that for me etc. I guess in Summer it may be better. For one thing I'd really like to compare exhaust volumes cause sometimes think mine is megga loud

Oh and my mates slag me off for going to a meet where apparently we all pleasure ourselves over either the bonnet or up the exhaust so it never appeals to tell them where I am going on said night

can i second this one, instead of a specific day what about the DATE? then it falls on a different day each month which would maybe suit more people? face-icon-small-smile.gif

I've been to a few different meets at different regions and i noticed with the Glasgow meet that not a lot of people talked to each other too..... i don't think it's maybe the best layout at Stepps as it's all different tables and doesn't encourage interaction - again not a dig at all just an observation

let's try somewhere new! face-icon-small-smile.gif

I suggest a fortnight in Mexico.face-icon-small-tongue.gif I've heard the beer is cheap. anyone work for a travel agents.

I don't mind the meets being in paisley, I've also heard there is a Food place there that can host everyone at the same table (hint hint peter. 10% commision please) face-icon-small-wink.gif we even may be able to get a SIDC Discount if its a fixed meet. face-icon-small-smile.gif

Rant over suggestions puleeze.face-icon-small-happy.gif >>

Maybe if you would take the time to read the previous replies Billy the suggestions have been made !!

Please do not put the onus on the members to decide what happens and where, this is what the positions of the ROs are. Are they not?

we are happy just need to be organised.

getting there though.

Good to see you back online Billy and hope you enjoyed your xmas and new year break which no doubt has countless suggestions for the 1st part of the year?

Looking forward to hearing them all at the Glasgow Meet.

Where has the Glasgow meet thread dissapeared to BTW?

i suggest we have a the next meet at Hillington.

I suggest we all sit together, and if it means arranging tables so we are all in one massive group then thats good. if they dont like it we can find somewhere that will accomodate us all sitting like the knights of the round table.

I suggest we all stand up like dafties and introduce ourselves and state what nice shiny car we have (that breaks the ice and lets us all know who we all are)

I suggest we try and make newbies feel as welcome as possible by taking a real interest in them, their cars and what they have to say.

I suggest i stop talking before my omelette burns

Spooks had a meet @ the ten-pin bowling in December - i personally thought it was great and was a change from going to a restraunt & sitting about having a blether.

Not that there's anything wrong with doing that!!

So how about a ten-pin bowling night in Glasgow, just for a change to see how it goes?

personally speaking it doesnt matter where its held, its who is actually there etc and whether they are wanting to go out of their way to chat to others.

for one, over the last while i have felt its been a waste of time (no fault of yours billy) and to that end i wont be at another meet ..... pointless when you dont have a scoob anymore.

Pink Pepper, I think the same day every month suits as if it's a specific date many meets can fall on the weekends when people have other committments.

Choosing a venue in Glasgow is never an easy task. (or so I was told, by ballot!!!!!!!!!!! face-icon-small-tongue.gif )

"I suggest we all stand up like dafties and introduce ourselves."

I am a bit shy but it is a good idea. I was at the last meet in Glasgow and only met a couple of people. I hardly know who anyone is face-icon-small-confused.gif

I was really looking forward to the meet and took a lot for me to go and was a wee bit disapointed face-icon-small-sad.gif

Thats why we need lanyards and badges, lets get another round of them ordered, so we know who the feck we are talking to.

i think i have mentioned this before.

some people are good at driving fast, some slow, show and shine, speaking, not speaking, doing, talking about, playing the banjo, breakdancing, fixing things whatever.

I just realised that in pishy sales course along the way......when people stand up and introduce themselves even for 30 seconds everyone gets that gay I FEELMORE CONFIDENT NOW THING and as i mentioned before as much as it seems a bit clark kent and best left for banjo and ukalaley players............i think it would make for new people. not newbies to feel more welcome.

the last thing new members needed is to be treated like a throbbing member rather than a new member.face-icon-small-wink.gif

as some lunatic said on the tv COMPRONDAI?

I have been to plenty of courses and had to do ice beakers etc. I have absolutely no problem with them in the confines of a professional training course.

But in a Brewers Unfair on a Tues night with a lanyard roon ma neck!!! NO CHANCE.

We have to remember that many of us posting here all know each other and have met on numerous occassions.

If I was (say Vicki as she mentioned it) a little shy and unsure, sod feeling the dread that some must feel if it was their turn next to stand up.

It's about the members and forum users to make an effort to speak to each other. Yes there will be groups that form and get to know each other better due to either type of car, area they stay in, sense of humour and suchlike.

It was never the ROs job to be host, compere and introducer. That job was ALWAYS our's, the MEMBERS!!
