irish al Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Just fitted one of these to the car. It is quiter than my baileys DV12. Does anyone know if its adjustable to make it louder ??? the instructions are in chinese st3ph3n i know u have got one, is yours loud ? Its more like a whistle rather than a psssssssssshhhhhhhhhh
jasonb Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 You can adjust it but i am not sure how to but watch out as to much tension on the spring and you could cause you turbo to stall and damage it
dan_jess Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 They have changeable inserts, purple, silver and gold, gold is the loudest My m8 had the purple insert when he bought his sqv and u cud hardly hear it. Bought the silver 1 and its really quite loud now, not sure how much they r tho
st3ph3n Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 WRC No 1 told me how to adjust it, but I forget now. I think there's a wee bolt on one end you can adjust.
craig mac Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Is there not an issue with these vta d/v leading to damage to cylinders? Craig
the squiggle Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 To some people sounding like a double decker bus is more important than thinning out thier oil and risk picking up a bearing. Grant
craig mac Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Can it lead to that Grant? Fooook that, safer with recirc Craig

G.T. Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 he thought of sounding like a double decker bus appealed to me but after reding various post on here i dont think ill be bothering another stupid question whats the difference between a blow off valve and a dump valve
the squiggle Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Do a search for Borewash on Scoobynet or google The big ends on an Impreza are smaller than a Citroen Saxo and have to deal with a lot of horse power each Oil quaility and viscosity are crucial in providing a compressive barrier in the Big End shells. Thin the oil out and the barrier that prevents metal to metal contact at the bottom of the power stroke could lead to spinning a shell in the Big End housing If you do have a VTA then increase the frequency of your oil changes to compensate and if your oil smells of petrol when changing, fit a recirc dump valve Grant

craig mac Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Spose There would be warranty issues here as well eh ? Craig
G.T. Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 cheers for that grant so basicaly in a nutshell(nuts squirell get it) should be left as is . reading on here about induction kits aswell would it be right to say a good panel filter is the way to go aswell
the squiggle Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Fitting a cone filter to a std ECU will richen up the mixture and confuse the hell out of the MAF The extra richness will negate any usable power gained from fitting an induction cone On a std ECU a free flowing panel filter such as the APS or STI one will give the best gains Grant
darryll Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 ok mr squirrell thas all the bad bits about dump valves now tell us the good bits about them they all aint bad.
the squiggle Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 They sound awesome and make your car sound like a full blown rally car with all those whistles and chirps. Grant
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I have run with Grants suggestions and will change my oil (with Motul) more regularly......I have the Turbo XS RFL dump valve and it sounds IMMENSE. I figure that if Jools is running one on his car then it cannot be too bad as long as you take the g-mans advice.... Picc of the daddy - different sounds to HKS ( which i really like) but louder ...... I actually thought of selling it to fund other mods but my fiancee demands that I keep it ( unusual for a non-petrolhead ) If you blip the throttle on a "heel toe" gear change on approach to the KH hairpin ot sounds like s3xual chocolate :8
scott_coull Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Nice dump valve Carl Just got myself another one off ebay to fit onto the fmic piping. Sounds superb!
