vicki Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Hi Everyone Just a wee bit of info you may already know!! When you are washin your car every other day just now, because of the weather be careful. Don't pull your wipers away from the window and leave them incase they snap back. This can actually break your windscreen. It has happened to my mate (boys are silly)
Gumball Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 i dont normally do it, but i will watch out for that if i do (pull them away not wash it i mean)
ScoobyAndy Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 << It has happened to my mate (boys are silly) >> There we go guys looks like we have evidence to proove that the wife/girlfriend should wash the car too
craig mac Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I never pull my rubber away until it is safe to do so. Craig

ally-b Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 My car took some cleaning after the Highland run on Sunday , it was boggin But I learned something that day . . . Rain-x is great stuff . I used it for the first time after washing car on Saturday , and what a difference it made on Sunday , a few members actually asked why my windows weren't dirty like theirs . I also didn't seem to use very much skoosher water compared to others . When I hosed the car down when I got home , the dirt on the windows just slid off too . Al.

tino Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 << There was a tub of polish for £1500, hope santa brings me that one >> He'll want more than a mince pie and a glass of sherry for that one Good old Turtle Wax for me, made from real turtles don't you know
chris_c201 Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Meguairs for me, especially the endurance tyre gel, magic stuff!! used to have a black RX8 and the wax was superb.. On the subject of women cleaning cars my gf's car is a total disgrace, makes me sick!! I cleaned the exterior at the weekend but i refuse to touch the inside... As for cleaning the exterior i was jet washing my car (RX8) and my gf decided she would test the jet wash on the garden slabs, i said specifically stay away from the car and don't point at it.... next thing i know i get wacked on the head wi a stone, turn round to see her about 6 foot away from my car pointing in that direction. Shout to stop then look at the car and its covered in mud (had just finshed washing that side) then i cleaned it and noticed about 6 or 7 scratches right up the side................. AAArrrggghhh!!
st3ph3n Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I'm a swissol man for the shampoo and wax. Meguiars hot wheels for the wheels. Rain X for the windows. Lovely.
vicki Posted November 23, 2005 Author Posted November 23, 2005 lol Tinto Any suggetings for cleaning the dash. I don't want it too shiny and slippy but then again don't want it dull and dummy!! Any happy medium?
RA Dunk Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 wash mine wi Simoniz wash and wax shampoo ,wax it wi Williams F1 car polish
wrxmania Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Swissol is THE BUSINESS - best purchase I made 2 years ago for my Impreza - still loads left and half the wax too and it has been applied a dozen plus times easily. Also use Meguairs, BUT it is NOT as good for a black car as Swissol - leaves oily mess in the reflection (I am talking about NXT was here compared to Swissol Samurai wax - maybe an unfair comparison). And the only problem with products like Turtle Wax and Autoglym is they are polishes, not waxes and as such lightly cut the paint and are clay based so leave black rubber trim etc with white streaks - none of that from Swissol. MUCH easier to apply and remove. NXT on my silver car and the wife's though is fine. Works even better on my guitars and my amp Brian
wrxmania Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Should say that - HOORAY!!!!!!! - my car is clean at last - it has driven another few hundred miles since the run on Sunday and finally after I could no longer touch it or get in and out without getting covered in oily residue - the dirt was almost now black (on a silver car) up to the window line and even the roof and top of the spoiler were getting dirty. Also could not see out of the windows and mirrors anymore. Ridiculous. I actually took the dirt off the number plates with an ice scraper!!! Unfortunately, due to the pressure of time, I took the car, for the first time ever, to the local Auto shine (equivalent) place - the guy, hlafway through washing, knocked on the window and said "This is really filthy - it looks like you have been rallying it tthrough a field". I told him he was not far off it. £6 later, after a wash, hot wax, and wheels clean - they spent 20 minutes as he said "nice car mate, I'll make sure it is well cleaned", the car then rumbled back on the road...to get manky all over again with the lorry in front of me Anway, big up to "Easi Wash" in Main Street, Polmont, Falkirk. Buy 5 washes then you get a free wash (for the car)! Brian
2559B Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I've washed the car 3 times since Sunday's outing !!! It's now tucked up in it's bed 'til the weekend. Can anyone recommend a good interior cleaner ??? My seats are a bit grubby.
2559B Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Sorry forgot to say ........ " Brian !!! you're a lazy git ...... wash it yerself !!!!!
NightOwl Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I generally just use plain old water and a sponge during the week and at the weekend I use that Flash wash thing that goes onto the hose. The fancy spray you do last really does let it dry without the need to chamois. No water marks at all. This time of year you are definitely fighting a losing battle with the s***e they put on the roads that I think is one quarter salt, three quarters mud!
wrxmania Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 << Sorry forgot to say ........ " Brian !!! you're a lazy git ...... wash it yerself !!!!! >> Cheers - - it has been a long week, too dark, too cold, not in until too late and I am too not in the house ever!!!!! First time in at least 4 years I have used any kind of car wash system, other than the old hose and bucket special. Feel a bit of a failure!!! Now I feel cheated... (anyone like the amateur dramatics there - had to add some as the forum seems to have left the drama queen persona alone this week ) Brian
