craigdmcd Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Craig Mac is absolutely correct about the Wester Ross Coastal Trail round Gairloch and Aultbea. As a suggestion for a 2 day trip next year, how about heading up Loch Lomond, on to Inverary, then Oban, then the Fort William Road to Inverness or the Skye area. The second day could take in heading North West via Gairloch, up to Ullapool, then North and across to the Dornoch area and finally possibly down the road via the Elgin area. It would be a fair jaunt, but quite possibly some of the best Scooby roads in the world.
RA Dunk Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 the ones way down south would be a bit of a drive for us up north lot ,we would be looking at 5 hours to get to the borders i reckon just guessing though??

But then it's 2 hours from the borders just to get to Perth really. The law of averages says that you'll be near someone's backyard during part of the run, and MANY hundreds of miles from someone elses.
the squiggle Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 I always try and pick a central starting point I was in the seat for a hour and a half prior to departure from Perth and totaled nearly 500 miles in total. Trust me, 500 miles on HKS coilovers is an experience that rivals the Japanese torture tests As these things dont happen that often, we all need to make that we bit of effort to accomadate everyone. Grant
RA Dunk Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Well im not really fussed TBH ,anywhere is ok if its as much fun as yesterday!!
the squiggle Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 That my friend will be guarenteed Grant

But thats a bit of a long drive for the boys down south lol!! maybe keep it till we see if the 2 day run goes ahead start down south peebles borders kind of area then work up the west side up round the north then head south
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 << Grant I know its a bit out of the way but the road from Dingwall up towards Ullapool and over to Aultbea is AWESOME Also up that way Dingwall then up over Loch Carron, Kishorn and up over Applecross!! Awesome These could be a 2 day trip idea for Summer time perhaps..... Food for thought? I have family in the hotel trade up that way so we could possibly get some deals on b&b etc? Craig >> A weekender sounds tremendous !!!!!!! here's some more inspiration I'll be back with a vengeance in 2006
fai17 Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 A 2 dayer would bee great in the summer but keep the winter one shorter please. For 2006 i want at least 4 runs please. 1 in April 1 in May 1 in July(all weekend) 1 in September 1 in October
micra_wrc Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 << For 2006 i want at least 4 runs please. 1 in April 1 in May 1 in July(all weekend) 1 in September 1 in October >> err peter.... that's five
johns Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Glad to hear you all enjoyed Sunday's run. I just wish I had the time to come along given that it's a relatively short drive for me to Glenshee etc. There are some really cracking roads up in the North West, basically from the North of Fort William you can't really go much wrong. I've got loads of routes worked out for this area from the Tour d'Ecosse runs we did from 98 to 01/02. There are a variety of routes possible which can all start in the same place, finish in the same place, but there are lots of options for those who want to do a longer/faster route, and options for those who want more photo/coffee stops etc. I'm more than happy to help out with runs in this area in any way I can, as I do know many of the roads very well One thing to be aware of though, is that from about June - August inclusive, you gets loads of tourists driving on the single track roads. Italian camper vans are the worst, as they nevr pull over to let you past, and you can spend 30 minutes or longer stuck in a slow moving queue behind a mobile chicane with no hope of getting past. We've found that it's best to plan a good long run outwith this time for this reason (it also misses the peak midgie season, and some of you will know that they are wild up there!!) Fuel isn't quite as bad a problem as you think. You can fuel up at Fort William (Esso SUL), and if you phone ahead, you can ensure that the Shell station in Ulllapool will have sufficient stocks of Optimax in for us. One year, we even managed to persuade the Shell station at Ballachullish to stock SUL especially for us. They cleaned out an existing tank, and filled it with SUL Did confuse some of the locals, who objected to paying 90p/litre for fuel from their "normal" pump, when NUL was about 75p/litre. John

Winter could be a no no with the snow at Glencoe - (unless there was a ski-ing trip involved too! ) Back to the topic point, i think 4 runs a year would be good, as if you can't make it to one run then you only have a few months to wait til the next one? you could do one for each season. Keep up the good work guys!
col666 Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Inverness to Loch carron would be an amazing run in the summer, one of the best roads in the country and fantastic scenery, would be good to go over to applecross but i think we would have to close the road for 1 hour to get us all through! Also Ullapool and surrounding areas, huge fast corners, massive straights and tight twisty bits to keep you amused! applecross Col.
billyboy Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 As regards to runs guys, how about a change next year? I have been in touch with Cumbrian Scoobies and there are some cracking roads in their neck of the woods. The idea would be to do their territory then have them up here for a highland run. If you are interested give me some feed back so after the new year festivities i'll set the wheels in motion. Only a suggestion. Billyboy
Gumball Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 yeah Billy that sounds like a great idea mate. you reckon you could pull that off??? weve been invited down south tonight to some of the events in the future.
sharon_mccall Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Excellent idea Billy. Think you could get that arranged. You're the man to do it
jcscoob Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Thats a good plan billy, i suppose it would be good to me another branch of SIDC !

Any 1 else fancy a run to Finland, Look in the CADS section under rally trip for next year.
