harry_hood Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Been told that the millers 10/60 oil that i have been using on the wagon is the wrong stuff.is this true as the previous owners had been using this for the last couple of years, what is everyone else using?
Gumball Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 ,illers 15/50 hypertech suggest this awd suggest 10/60 ( i think)??? dont know what the difference is
RA Dunk Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 im on millers 10/60 recommended by wallace performance
paddy247 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 millers 10w/60 for me. A unmodified uk turbo will manage fine on 10w/40 sti and modified beasts like 10w/60 or 10w/50
wilky Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 10/60 is what I have always been advised to use, Millers, castrol, valvoline. I notice that newer cars with VVT seem to prefer 15/50. Dont know if there is a connection. Perhapes our resident encyclopedia Squirrel or the Oilman may be able to help??? Callum W.
harry_hood Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 lol it was oilman who has me worried about the 10/60,he seems to know what he is on about
Oilman Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 It's not the Millers bit but the 10w-60 that worries me. Just too thick for this car IMHO. You won't find sae 60 mentioned in the handbook, more likely 30, 40 or 50. Cheers Simon
jcscoob Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Oilman, how much are you for 5 liter's ? or a group buy ? Of witch oil ?
harry_hood Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 Found a 5 litre of millers XFS 5/50 fully synthetic is this oil ok for the scooby?
paddy247 Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Theres a lot you wont find mentioned in the handbook, I think 10w/60 speaks for itself and has been proven as suitable
craigdmcd Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I think you'll find that although 10w60 is doing no harm to the engine, it has been proved that changing to a good 5w40 can provide up to a 10bhp increase as it isn't as thick and doesn't cause as much drag in the engine. I personally like the reassurrance of a slightly higher viscosity in a tuned vehicle, so use Silkolene 10w50.
Gumball Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 << I personally like the reassurrance of a slightly higher viscosity in a tuned vehicle, so use Silkolene 10w50. >> craig, your just saying viscocity cos you used to have to call the driller from the shakers every 15 minutes and shout the weight and vis i joke
ormiboy Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 been on milliers 10/60 for two years, no probs
RA Dunk Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 << craig, your just saying viscocity cos you used to have to call the driller from the shakers every 15 minutes and shout the weight and vis i joke >> thanks for reminding me what im going back to on thursday gumball!! Now depressions really set in!!
Gumball Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 sorry mate... thats the worst feeling in the world in my experience, especially when your leaving your wife/partner to go and do it. it used to make me feel sick. now TBH i would be able to handle it no bother cos i live myself and only have SIDC round to keep me amused.
WUZ Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Could be worse.......I could be your driller I make my guys call it on the PA every 5 mins when going through sands ( we are underbalance drilling right now). Keeps them on their toes (and pisses them off as well....I love a good wind up) but they are Indians after all Does that make me a "cowboy" ? Russell
alan_ferguson Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Graham Goode Racing recommend Millers 10w50. Alan F.
Gumball Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 if you were my driller and did that every 5 minutes i would come up to the floor and ask you to look at that next to the V door. WOOPS but im not, yuour not and your my friend better watch the indianos dont lynch you and hump you
WUZ Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 << if you were my driller and did that every 5 minutes i would come up to the floor and ask you to look at that next to the V door. WOOPS but im not, yuour not and your my friend better watch the indianos dont lynch you and hump you >> M8, these "curry eating vegans" are too busy "doing" each other to worry about having me! I only do it to have an excuse to wind them up! I have to as sitting in a Air-Conditioned Doghouse for 12 hours really drains you OH! how I miss working in the North Sea.............................................................NOT Russell
Gumball Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 class. like as i mentioned to someone the other day on teh run....when i was a guardsman and we mounted gaurd at buckingham palace after the Ghurkas, all the bunk beds were placed side by side. we though this strange then it dawned on us that they werent just mounting queens guard but also mounting each other clearly from there on in, we didnt look at them on the forecourt, but they didnt know cos we always remained expresionless and looked straight ahead only anyway.
