Go into Profile and you can edit it there - if it does not crash (as you can see mine has) and I am unable to fix it anymore until intervention comes my way face-icon-small-smile.gif

To be Honest i was wondering when somebody was going to do this,

It has crossed my mind before to raise the capital to build a purpose built 1/4 mile strip, with the best of facilities.

i know it can be nightmare going to crail and sitting about after that drive and it pouring down all day? i think this has upset a lot of regulars to crail especially as there has been so many attempts to shut crail. but really this is more of a regular meet up point and a place to have fun. fife cruisers have a police liasion officer and they seem to be supporting this too. all support will be appriciated!

the strip is planned to be built just outside the town or thornton. the meet to discuss and see how much support there was, was held in carpark in glenrothes town centre thats where the pics were taken. they had a not too bad turn out, show n shine (we won lol!!) and a raffle with great prizes. it had support from revs, falkland performance, ripspeed and a number of other local companies

What the hell guys. My parents live in Thornton and I can tell you now there will be a hell of a fight if you try this. There is a problem already of people speeding up and down Strathore Road. (The one without the bumps BTW) and I have had an incident with one of the locals screaming his car up the 30 mph. If you thought the complaints about Crail were bad.... Where has this come from and why have the locals not been consulted? This is a small community of mainly older folks and young mothers.

BTW I checked the site and I couldn't find anything about Thornton.

just found paper with info on the strip after the meet cannot find other one but there were advertisments in the glenrothes gazzette before the meet heres what paper says sorry its a bit long

Organsiers of an outdoor meetingto discuss plans for a motor sport facility have hailed the event a sucess.

Young drivers were asked to turnout at the fullerton road carpark behind fife house, last Sunday evening to gauge the level of interest in the proposal. And its now hoped to sat up a group to look at the idea-for establishing a race track in a safe environment-in more detail.

Various competitions, a barbecue, dj and dannce music were provided at the meeting. Project co-ordinatoe for 'the meet' Allan Munro told the gazzette "it was a great success with a good turnout dispite the weather, and strong support was expressed by all who attended.

"i got over 250 people to sign up and support my project which was quite an achievement in four hours. there were around 80 cars and i spoke to just about everyone who camealong. there were no negative comments from anyone either, they all just wanted to know how soon it could be started. Everyone wants to make it happen and this is exactly what i was lookinf for."

He said repesentatives from various car clubs and groups also showed an interest in supporting the initiative. Allan hopes to provide an outdoor year-round facility for young drivers, well away from the public.

the idea is to give them a safe place to practice their hobby instead of using fifes roads and public highways.

the meeting was for young people, who have enhanced their cars, to find out what their response to the scheme would be.

"I am intending to hold another meeting in either march or april when the weather is better" he continued.

"I was also very proud of all the young driverswho attended because there wasnt a single incident on Sunday. Everyone was impecably behaved and i was very pleased with that."

Allan thanked the various sponsors of sundays event including

fife direct hire, gigging for it, falkland performance centre, revs, halfords, star performance, lucas, gavin anderson photography and carklean.

he added "i would like to thank everyone who came along on the day and gave their support, especially the volunteers who helped to make 'the meet' such a success."

Hope this helps you all but there was afair bit of advertising for this event

zeoite there was a lot of advertising done for this it was in all local papers before and after the event, from what has been said there seems to be a lot of support from all ages young and old. i think this could be just what we need as it will encourage people to go here and not speed etc in public places.

As for you saying about thornton being for older people and young mums etc well im a young mum and support this as i would rather they done it in private place than up and down the streets and let the kids play safe. Also crail is full of older people and as you saw in the documentary not all people were against it a lot of the older people supported the event and liked seeing the cars. i feel that this will be the feeling in glenrothes too. hope you dont take offence to this but something needs to be done to encourage people to drive sensibly on the roads and as you can see from last post from 80 cars and a few hundred people there were no incidents this proves that the younger people are sensible and this is just what they need

Hopefully we will get the chance to talk about this face to face.

My background is in club motorsport and I have been competing in hose kind of events for over 20 years now. (Yes I am old).

I didn't see the documentary about Crail. I have been going to Crail for the rallies for nearly 20 years now though both as a spectator and a competotor. I have never been to a 1/4 mile event and I have no desire to either.

I have just done a quick poll from Thorntons' gossip queens and they haven't heard anything about a strip. There are a lot of new houses being built on the outskirts so I would imagine that land prices are going to be a bit competitive. Frankly it is just too close to a built up area IMHO. As for your point about younger people being senssible; it is not the sensible ones that cause problems in any sector.

Did you know there is a rumour that Knockhill is building a drag strip and drift course?

No offence taken and none offered. it is good to discuss things in a calm way face-icon-small-happy.gif

There's surely a massive gap in the "automotive leisure" industry in Scotland. Particularly in the west where there really isn't much in the way that your average joe can take part in. Be it track days or 1/4 miles.

1/4 mile racing appears to be here to stay, whether you enjoy it or not. I'm more of a corners man myself, but I still like to watch, and who knows maybe I'd like to try it.

Scotland needs more motorsport facilities FULL STOP. And I think we should be grateful that people are trying.

Perhaps Thornton isn't the best place for whats proposed, but at least someone is trying.

Totalling agree with this point. There is a lack of facilities to meet the growing popularity of motoring-related activities. You just have to do a search on the internet to see how many different car clubs & forums are about, all of which are full of like-minded people who use there cars for more than just getting to work !!!

I'm sure if someone , where it be Local authorites, or private group built a venue, ( either a 1/4 mile strip or track ) it would be massively popular with the young enthusiasts.

Surely if it was built out of town ..... it would remove a potential danger out of the local built-up areas & streets ???

would be great to discuss this face to face! i think that what alan is trying to do is make a place for people to go and meet up too, someone mentioned a cafe but not sure if this is true? and also somewhere for help and advice.

I have been informed by alan that he has another meeting on friday with the police and fife council. hopefully all will go well and he is still looking for support. at least if this goes ahead we wont have far to go home if it rains unlike sunny crail lol!!! dont know bout u lot but hate driving all the way there to sit in a car cause the rain is so heavy?

on a different subject am looking at doing IAM test any of u done it? would like wrx but would like some more experience behind me before getting one and let insurance drop too
