Fee Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Right....I want a full decat system now! (So much for keeping my car the way it is LOL) I've got one CAT out now...can't remember which one at the moment...will look at some photos and see if I can tell! Where's the best place to get one? Any recommendations? What sort of price? Cheers
craig mac Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Fee Give Wuz a shout and arrange something next time you are in Abz He will get you a good price on pipe and fitting Craig
Fee Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 I reckon the back one's out.... (is that the centre section?) So its the front one I'm after
Fee Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 seriously? I'm in aberdeen this weekend!!
Johnny50 Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Fee, Tis most likely that the centre one is gone. Just get a nice downpipe and that'll be you.
craig mac Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Give Wuz a shout see if he can help you out Downpipe is what you need doing looking at the pictures You will find Russell's number on onew of the threads re abz/crail started me thinks by Cal Or PM him am sure he will try and fit you in Craig

Fee Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 Will do...probably wont need it fitted (managed to fit it on my last car, so I'm sure I'll have a bash on this one! Adam....help please!)
SaxoBoy Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Fee the centre cat is gone leaving only the downpipe. The downpipe cat is the biggest, the hardest to remove and refit and is usually required to pass on MOT. However, removing it does give a noticeable gain in grunt, spool up times and noise and its well worth it. One thing to check though is how happy the STI's are running a decat without a remap. There was a school of thought when I had my scooby that the UK classics were happy with a decat but that the P1 and sti's really should be remapped to allow them to run them safely. This wouldn't be the end of the world given that a decat and remap should see you over 300bhp
Fee Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 hmmmmm...didnt think I would need a remap for removing it....is this normal? MOT should be ok....Adam knows a friendly garage
fai17 Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 You still need to check if it's the standard downpipe on your car. If it is you can then look for a after market one.Its you choice what you want to get. If you want a custom one you can give me a shout.
SaxoBoy Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Best people to ask for confirmation of this are Andy F or John Banks or perhaps a search on Scoobynet would give the exact answer. There has been peeps that have decatted STI5s and P1 without a remap but if I recall the margine for error isn't there. £300-500 for a remap that will give you added safety and extra power isn't money badly spent. I'll have to have words with adam about that garage at some point as my car isn't entirely MOT ready
craig mac Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 My Classic UK never required a remap and it ran great when fully decatted Craig
Adam Kindness Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 aye aye cognogs.... The downpipe may be a turd to get off. It was a right pain in the bottom on the supra... studs had to be heated with a torch etc etc. A re-map would be good.... but what re-maps (if any) can be done on an ECU from a STi IV? Not really wanting a sep/new ECU. Fee: If your wanting a boost controller it would be worthwhile finding out what the std fueling/map can safely fuel? If its marginal at std boost (what is std boost again?) an uprated fuel pump (walbro etc) and regulator would be an idea if you're wanting slightly more, ken.
RA Dunk Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 i think i remember Cal telling me yesterday he messed about with his down pipe without a remap and did some damage , not 100% sure though but better to find out anyway before ya do anything
colinj Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 My decat was a total C**t to remove!! started it myself.....made my knuckles bleed & had to take it to a garage!! Worth replacing the gaskets aswell as mine were toast...dp - center one especially!! I went for the Magnex....with an up pipe to go with it. Heard the H&S is the one to have though!! They also do a sports cat-pipe which may be worth a look at.....its not cheap though!!
Fee Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 Thank you colin I will have a look into them Might have to wait til after xmas now
colinj Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 << Might have to wait til after xmas now >> Would make a nice christmas stocking filler.......its the right shape also
Fee Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 It would....I have already commented on this to adam....hehe We'll see.....don't know if I can afford that, a remap and buy our flat.....donations welcome!
mazheriqbal_mohammed Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 << Heard the H&S is the one to have though!! They also do a sports cat-pipe which may be worth a look at.....its not cheap though!! >> I can highly recommend the Hayward and Scott systems (not bias by the fact they are on my scooby!!) gave me very noticeable gains in performance and throttle response. When i went for the set up got the back box and centre decat first, which on its own reduced my 1/4 mile times by upto 0.4s. Then got the downpipe fitted, recommend the fully open necked downpipe as opposed the the twin pipe designs (which H&S do as standard i believe!). The difference was like night and day to the throttle response and my 1/4 mile times had reduced upto a further 0.5s, however the part i liked the most is that you can hear the turbo spooling up a lot more (always brings a smile to the face!). The centre decat can be fitted fairly easy but the downpipe as it connects the the turbo needs you to leave the car for a couple of hours after driving to let the pipes cool down. Got AWD to fit my downpipe and it took a while to do as on my UK model the heat shield over the turbo needed to be reshaped to fit the new d/p and also there was a sensor on the pipe (i forget which!) that had over time welded to the original pipe and needed replacing (this cost an extra £50 but i dont know if the jap type R has the same sensor fitted, just warn you from my experience!). Glad you decided to get do some mods to the scoob even after you said you were just gonna leave the car how it is Nice one!!
