irish al Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 Just wanted to know if anyone has one of these fitted to thier car. If so whats your opinion on them.
sma01 Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 no, dont do it mate. Know of someone who got this done to a CTR(not duncan) and he was far from happy... GEMS is the way to go mate.... Scott
jamie_wood Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 Also got one on my car. Its mapped up to 320bhp and 310lbf. No real problems but I think I could push nearer the 350++ if it was ECUTEK or as Scott says..Gems or Motec
sma01 Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 did i mention i was selling an ecutek ecu....??? mucho cheapness....... Scott
simon_mcwilliam Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 << Just wanted to know if anyone has one of these fitted to thier car. =Robbo= Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Al, are you running a new age? If so, you don't need a piggy back ECU mate. The whole piggy back ECU thing is a real b*stard hack IMO, after installing it the on-board ECU is in a constant state of WTF is going on! This may not have any affect on real world performance, but it certainly gives me a bad feeling. It's like putting a wee bit of petrol in the tank of a Diesel engine for some added Oomph! (yes that does work - been there, done that on HGV?s in winter). Give my on-board ECU a new environment map any day, and let the thing do it?s job. A hack is a hack is a hack, it will never be more efficient than a hack by design! Robbo
fai17 Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 I would only consider a new ECU(GEMS , MOTEC ,etc)or a AndyF ECUTEC remap m8
Power Junkie Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 I hope to have some results from a Unichip installed STI 5 Type R. Lets see if it can get what I know it can.
the squiggle Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 It is one of the better piggy back units out there but it has its limitations due to only being able to correct the std fuel and ign map by a certain amount either side of thier normal opartaing outputs Grant
