Calling all those with a harness..

Sup peeps,

Need some help on fitting my new harness.. just wondering where everyone has theirs bolted on?? Did you drill any holes or use the existing bolts for the seat/seat belt?

For the back strap - theres a bolt just below the backseat on the carpet, there is also one underneath the actuall seat for the back seat belts etc.. Is either of these any good to use?

For the side straps is it best to use the same bolt that holds the original belt and buckle on the other side or the bolts that hold the seat in place? I want to avoid drilling holes etc if i can.

Where do you guys have yours? Any help much appreciated face-icon-small-smile.gif

i bolted mine in where the rear seatbelts mount, the bolts/mounts you get with the harnesses will screw right in, as for the sides of the seats again i used the existing holes, the only thing i had to do was make 2 small slits in the carpet, i have also left in the original belts for when i am running late in the morning and cant be bothered with the harness

yes all hoses were the existing seatbelt mounting points, stephen i bought luke harnesses they hav hooks that you can disconnect and remove them in 2 mins, i didnt want to loose the rear seat so i an unhook them if i need to. i can take pics later if it will be any help to you guys?

Why not try a CG-Lock?  Press reports give it 10/10 rating, fits in 5 mins and gets you 80% of the benefits of a harness...without the hassle....easier to live with than britney spears (probably)!  contact me on graham@cg-lock.co.uk to order at good SIDC member price.  Cheers, Graham. BTW lots who have both harness and seatbelt use CG-Lock on the street and harness on track....ideal!...for less than a tank of petrol.

Don't suppose anyone has or knows of a Guide to fitting harnesses to a Newage Impreza?  Particularly interested in them being removable so that the rear seats can be used if/when required.

Also, any opinions in fitting harnesses if you don't intend to do any track events? i.e. for the novelty/pose factor is it a waste of money and not recommended in a road car for safety reasons?

Cheers

Den,

Do you have a roll cage? Personally and recommended to me by an Scrutineer when I used to compete that if you dont have a roll cage then stick with seatbelts. If you roll your car (which I hope you dont!) then your in for more trouble ie injury with harnesses.

use my harness on he road feel safer than with seatbelt,as being of the slim varity i felt i was sliding out of the seat in corners,as for safety harness is on a ratchet same as ordinary seat belts so would need to see official test to verify harness not as safe in road accident

Den fitting in a new age is simple, i have luke harnesses and can unhook them when i need to as i still have all the seat belts in, could show you/give you a hand if your close, or if your at crail next week pop over and have a nosey

A few years ago a taxi driver crossed onto my side of the road to avoid a large puddle, he said he didnt see me coming the other way but to cut a long story short we had quite a nasty head on collision because of it I ended up in hospital with a broken sternum, it was the most painful thing i've ever experienced and could barely move for a month.

My sternum broke because the seat belt obviously only goes over one shoulder causing the body to flex under a high G impact.

A harness would have prevented this. In a bad roll over accident where the roof completely collapses a harness may cause your death by preventing you from getting out of its way but will offer far more protection in a high G impact which is a lot more likely than a rollover, unless your rallying bt then youll have a rollcage anyway

Hi m8

If you could re-post the pics that would be excellent.  Did you manage to pick up all existing holes and/or seat belt mounting points or did you have to drill new holes?

Also, thanks for the offer to meet up with you, however, I'm not really a Crail fan so unlikely to be there and unfortunately, I live in the Trossachs area so although not a million miles away from you it's not just a wee nip up the road. Leave it with me.

Cheers
