Arrrgghhh!! What is that noise???

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my car, hopefully not serious. I have a dump valve fitted and when I change gear, doesn;t matter how many revs I'm at, there is a release of pressure from the valve and then a tiiinnnnng noise, like a metal ring noise which I haven't heard before.

Could the dump valve be on its way out?? It is something more serious?

Sounds a bit like your spring is weak on the dumpvalve and its releasing pressure which it shouldnt do.

How old is the dump valve?

I bought the car from RS Grant and to my knowledge I don't think it is that old. Is it a serious problem, does it need fixed immediately?

Do you still have the standard dumpvalve ?

I put a brand new OEM recirc one on, just before i sold it to Grant.

Might be worth swapping back, just to confirm if it is the dv thats on it's way out.

Failing that...

I'll buy the car back of you !

No, the deal fell through, so still got the Civic.

Not sure where the DV came from thats on the Subaru, as it had the standard one on when i sold it.

If you are thinking of selling...gimme a shout.

If it is a weak spring is it serious? will it cause damage to the car if I don;t get fixed asap?

Hi Colinj,

It doesn't feel as powerful but I don't know if it still holds the boost, or I'm just use to the car, didn't want to drive it fast in case there was something serious with it.

Will it cause any damage?

I do, I will try it tonight to see if it loses any pressure, but I take it I am better to get it replaced anyway?

It would be my first port of call, yes.

Certainly wont do any harm changing it.

If i were you i'd call Grant first, see if he has the OEM one.

Or see if someone else local can lend you one to try.

Better than spending £150 on something.

The D/V on the car was used when I bought it.. but was told that it wasnt old?!

I passed the standard one onto a friend that was selling his VTA on. I will see if I can get hold of it again, but I think he's pretty happy without the "Ptssshh" sound.

i have a standard recirc valve if you want to test it which i took out to put in my baileys dv, pm me if you need it

Get the DV off and takes pics of the outside to see what exactly it is, then take it apart and we'll see what it's like inside. Might tell us what's up.
