the squiggle Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 I found out last Friday that there may a chance to meet his holiness, the Right Honourable Andy F Esq, a full five weeks ahead of schedule due to the Satanic ones damn unfortunate set back in his plans for world domination. Met Andy at his unit and fitted all the monitoring gubbins to the car and told him what the idiot, me, had done to the car modification wise. For the past few nights sleep has been an issue due to knowing what the car is going to be subjected to when it is being remapped, will it hold together or will it blow the head gaskets or maybe throw a rod right throw the block, are the pistons gonna take it or did running with that phantom CEL for a couple of months do any damage, is the oil right for the job or could i change the plugs; you just do not know for sure if it will take the stress of prolonged long pulls through high gears After 2 hours of tinkling about the back roads of the East of Scotland the job was done with the Andy giving the engine a clean bill of health and with no DET. Beforehand the car used to put out 271bhp at 1.1bar on the ScoobyECU and TD05. The car feals quicker now on its low boost setting of 0.7bar that it did at 1.1bar on the old ECU. The high boost setting of 1.38bar is absoloutely astounding with the car trying to spin its wheels in second in the dry. The flexability of fifth gear now is stunning when you potter about at 50mph on the motorway and just gently prod the throttle it starts to act like a rabid dog straining on a leash. Another bonus is the massive improvement in the fuel economy getting back home. I had to tap the guage to make sure it was not stuck. I have run 8 different ECUs,{U8, Z4, 6K, ZeroSports, Microtech, ScoobyECU, GEMS} in my car since i got it 3 years ago and this is by a country mile the best economy, most responsive, tidiest ECU that i have experienced. By god the boffins at Apexi know what the are doing and when Andy does his stuff to said ECU, life is grand. So thanks again Andy for giving the B*tch some fire in her belly to fend off all the young upstarts and thanks to Playsatan for donating the Gucci parts from his Version 5 TypeR, DRB5 for his last minute loan of MAP sensor and to Coulty for being on the same wavelength and let me use his ScoobyECU for such a long time, JohnnyR6 its all yours but the biggest thanks is to Imy, the understanding girlfriend, who has understood and supported me when i have come up with hairbrained ideas God bless the Subaru Community and all who drive in her Grant
wilky Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Outstanding, Grant its been a long time coming, I am so happy for you. Andy really is as good as everyone says, his results speak for themselves. Now, hurry up and pop the crank so that you can buy my bottom end. Callum W
fai17 Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 That is terrific news Grant...The man is a God gift.. Nobody bought your engine yer Wilky
the squiggle Posted August 30, 2005 Author Posted August 30, 2005 Wilky, i am afraid ma Crank is a tough as a Tank and if she was gonna pop today would have been that day but as i say "best not to keep all your roasted marshmallows in one fire" and if plan A, which you and a priviliged few others know about, falls by the wayside then your bottom end will step up as plan B, which you also know about It is not a VF28 as i first thought but the larger VF24 with is almost the same size wise as the TD05 but with a much better spool between gearchanges Grant
