Guest Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Hi all, I've put up a few posts on Scoobynet looking for help regarding loss of coolant, well took it to my local subaru dealer they changed the coolant and advised it was a fault in the radiator cap and that is why water was coming out of the expansion tank. Got the coolant changed been running it for about the last week took it out for a good run last sat stopped at light to finds lots of smoke coming from under the hood, took it to my local dealer advised head gasket has gone, holy sh*t comes to mind. Now the question is, is there any guys out there based in or around the Glasgow area who can advise of a good garage who will do a decent job, I've been thinking of using either The Garage Performance tuners in wishaw or SRE Motor sport in paisley. Also thought about taking the car back to where I got it Calder Motor but don't think it would be wise to drive it 50 miles with the gasket gone, I could be wrong? Any advice most welcome, thanks in advance. Alan.

the squiggle Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 How long have you had the car since you bought it from Calder? Grant
Guest Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Just under a year mate, more money more money no fun when you've got none
the squiggle Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 A bit too long for any kind of comeback Try Greers place down in Bieth and they will get you on the road in double quick time for the best possible price Grant
dave_morgan Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Sorry to hear that Alan, Let me know how you get on though, as my gasket has gone too . Currently fighting with the warranty company, but would be interested to know where you end up getting it done and roughly how much it costs. Cheers Dave
JohnSt Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Dave, cost might not be easily equated as the heads may or may not need skimmed in either case. Seems a common fault, I've just had the same trouble, both heads were leaking, one needed 4 thou taken off the face and the worst 9 thou. Machining costs were dear, however labour costs were very reasonable.... I did it myself.
