chesney Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Bought my 2nd Legacy GT Twin Turbo Estate, 183kw version so allegedly 245bhp but feels more like 210-220 to be honest. Had my first one while in New Zealand and they have a good Subaru Forum which covers all Subaru's. Was called ClubSub!! Very knowlegable guys on there too and I found it to be a good site for info and help. Couldn't find a UK forum that covers all, bar the new site that doesn't seem to have taken off yet. So can I get a home here without getting any grief about driving a big old bus!!
ANDYJDMSTI Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 welcome buddy. am a member of clubsub too and you are right it is a pretty good forum. enjoy the "big old bus"!!!
teknopete Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Everyones welcome buddy. With the exception of wee chav mofo`s L8r m8 Pete
chesney Posted July 20, 2005 Author Posted July 20, 2005 << Everyones welcome buddy. With the exception of wee chav mofo`s L8r m8 Pete >> Glad to hear it. Can't stand those muppets with seats fully reclined, burbery baseball caps, silly bass boxes and think they can drive. Love proving them wrong. The Legacy is less prone to getting hassle than an Impreza I presume. Kind of Q car looks which I kind of like.
RS Grant Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Welcome mate... Got any plans for "The Big Ol' Bus" then?? Cheers, Grant
SEEVERS Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Welcome bud....you get any wheels for the Legacy yet..? Del.
chesney Posted July 21, 2005 Author Posted July 21, 2005 Nope no wheels as yet. Still doing some research. I hear some Audi wheels might fit. Always liked the S3 rims. Seems the Legacy has quite a high offset of about 52mm. So unsure if Impreza wheels will fit it. They have the same PCD and similar offset. Not sure if a few MM will make much difference. Suppose main thing is clearance for brake calipers. Plans for the 'BUS' are limited. Bought as a cheap quick family wagon. Would like to sort out the 'Valley of death' AKA lag between the turbo's which is a pretty big flat spot! Apparently they all suffer from this and a modified intake helps. Had a go at removing a small parking ding in the rear door and have to say I did a not bad job! Not completely gone but an improvement. Ideally I'd like to get the minor dings out by a good dent devil/master/wizard. None are that bad but I know they are there. Wheels are really letting the car down though so that will be 1st on the list Like these wheels - on the White car PS not my Postcode
the squiggle Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 << Everyones welcome buddy. With the exception of wee chav mofo`s L8r m8 Pete >> What do we do if the "Wee Chav Mofo's" own a Scoob and, god forbid, have access to Broadband technologies. Grant
chesney Posted July 21, 2005 Author Posted July 21, 2005 Think in the meantime I will do a DIY refurb on the BBS rims. Will make them easier to sell on I suppose. Did a fairly good job of the last wheels I did but these will be more of a pain due to the number of spokes and angles!! I'll give it a go and post up my efforts
dave_morgan Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Welcome aboard - I've always liked the leggys, well unrated IMHO. Hopefully meet you at one of the meets at some point... Dave
p1ggm Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 hello and welcome, i had a wee bit of banter a while ago with a black one in dundee, very nice, very subtle, and very very quick should have bought one if i was more sensible
chesney Posted July 22, 2005 Author Posted July 22, 2005 Went for the Legacy over a WRX due to the load capabilities as its a reqirement for me just now. I always liked the Impreza even way back when nobody really knew what they were like. They are very good cars but I think they suffer from an image issue. Not that they are bad cars, far from it, but it seems they have developed a boy racer image which is a bit unfair to the enthusiasts that drive them cos they are damned good fun, like on here. I reckon its down to the minority of drivers that hassle other drivers by tailgating and cutting up and genreally being aggressive. Not fair as its not the cars fault and down to the individuals. You get a bit more hassle in an Impreza as I imagine everyone thinks you want to race all the time which must get annoying. I still quite fancy getting one at some point. I do fancy meeting up at some point. I particularly like the odd track day or karting session but I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment. Aren't we all!! Like to see how the old bus gets round Knockhill. But not been up there for a few years due to the number of nutters and chav's that seem to be taking over. Organised evenings would be good sometime. I hear East Fortune is quite good too. Kind of a kart track so tight and twisty.
st3ph3n Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Last SIDC KH trackday was great Chesney. Very well organised. Good mix of about 1/3 Imprezas, a good few elises and then other top cars. No wee nutters in 1 litre Novas with 4 mismatching tyres.
chesney Posted July 23, 2005 Author Posted July 23, 2005 Ok before and after pics of my DIY wheel refurb. Bear in mind this cost me under a tenner to do so not exactly powder coating quality Anyone want to buy them then let me know. Got 3 really good tyres and one a bit worn on inside A huge inprovement I think. They were getting really tatty and bubbling and kerbing all over them. Spent ages sanding them down to make sure the paint will stick properly and not flake off after a few months!
ANDYJDMSTI Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 that's a damn fine job you have done there Dave i quite like those wheels.
chesney Posted July 24, 2005 Author Posted July 24, 2005 << that's a damn fine job you have done there Dave i quite like those wheels. >> Cheers Probably look better in the photo that in the flesh but not bad. From 2 paces they look mint. Only close inspection do they look sprayed as the finish isn't smooth like a factory finish.
DuncanG Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 Hope you don't mind if another Legacy driver sneaks in here - you know we like to be stealthy Been lurking for a while but always been put off by that I- word in your name. Got a rather scruffy (all part of the camoflage) black GT twin-turbo in Glasgow. Chesney - I've fitted Sti7/8 wheels and 225/45 tyres to my GT. It takes a bit of fettling, the rear clearance is a problem but it can be done. Why not log in to UKlegacy.com - there's a few folk with the twin-turbos on there, including a new guy from Paisley. I'm afraid your stuck with the VOD with the twins. Duncan
SEEVERS Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 Chesney/Dave...could you contact me if you are still interested in buying the alloys i have for sale.... Cheers Del.
cdowling_bm Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Chesney, finally, there are more of us. Duncan, nice to see you've come out of the woodwork. I've got a '97 GTB (see avatar) but is resting at the moment. The big ends went a couple of months ago so she's off the road. I've got a replacement engine going in as soon as I get my finger out and I'm also taking the opportunity to carry out a few odd jobs as well. Hopefully she should look and drive like brand new when I'm done. I'm hoping to have the car ready for the AWD open day so maybe we can meet up. Welcome aboard anyway. Charles.
DuncanG Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Hello again Charles. I'm fitting yet another revision of the suspension this weekend so I'd like to think that at least will be sorted by the time of AWDs open-day. Went once before but it wasn't really my cup of tea. Why don't you join in at UKlegacies some time? So what else are you getting done? Duncan
cdowling_bm Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 UKLegacies? Don't know anything about them and a Google search didn't come up with much. Aside from swapping out the engine, I'm just renewing a few things and tidying up a few others (brake discs + pads, caliper reconditioning, respraying the front and rear bumpers to tidy up the stone chips (maybe even the bonnet if the bumpers come out ok), fix aircon. All the little jobs I should have done a while ago but never got to. I'm not doing any performance modifications just yet but a single turbo conversion and ECU replacement is tempting. The problem with doing the single turbo route is that the car will be off the road longer than I'd like it to be. We'll see.
