To VTA or not to VTA

That is the question.

The car is getting some sugar and spice and all things nice added to it tomorrow (ok, it's only a backbox), and I'm considering a VTA dump valve. Not as a performance thing, just for sh*ts and giggles.

Will it:

a) annoy the hell out of me after a while

B) make me look like a ned/boy racer "out to pickup 15 year old girls at strathclyde park on a saturday night" (that's according to my mate, he doesn't drive)

or

c) give me a big grin every time I shift

Personal choice at the end of the day...

With the 3 options you put..i'd put them in this order.

C.

A.

B.

I loved mine, but got a bit bored of it after a while.

all of the above i think.

I would get a really loud mother i f i were you. I have a turbo xs valve which they have stopped making i think cos its so loud.

Ask big andy how loud it is. he heard it the other night before the anti-lift kit stopped working LOL

the louder the better. if your really childish you can even time your shifts to perfecrtion and get it swooooooshing just as you pass hot randoms at the roadside.

Gauranteed to get them looking at the WRC spoilerface-icon-small-happy.gif

Did you have one on yours Cal? I think I remember hearing it on a video once. I believe it made me grin profusely.

I remember hearing one on the Getaway in Stockholm, either 1 or 2, and it made me smile for days.

The cars going into MSW in Strathaven at lunch time tomorrow. They have Forge VTA DVs on offer for 01> Imprezas at the moment. £125 (less paid up SIDC member discount?)

Are the Forge ones any good?

Had a Forge on the MY99 I used to own... Not the loudest, but still brought a grin to the face specially when the car popped and banged all over the shop with it on!! face-icon-small-happy.gif

I hate to say this, but I'm I not right in thinking dump valve will damage your motor due unburnt fuel getting into the oil system cause you have changed the air to fuel ratio?

I was warned off them until I get my car remapped by Andy F

I remember reading somewhere that suggested they offered no performance benefits, but nothing about actually being damaging.

Anyone with more technical know how like to enlighten us?

Aparently it can damage the car as if not set up right the vented air pressure confuses the ecu somehow messing up the fuel/air ratio... or something like that.

It will however help you sell your car when the time comes, i had one on my old rs turbo and every guy that came to see it asked if it had a dumpvalve fitted. The 18 year old who bought it lifted the bonnet, saw the d.v and said i'll have it. I hadn't even started the car...LOLface-icon-small-shocked.gif

Right, if they can fit one tomorrow whilst I'm there then I'll have one.

I can't resist.

TSCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

you dont need a VTA for that tshhhhh noise, get a induction kit and a recirclating bov then you'll have no running issues(problem)

i've got a Forge Recirclating BOV and no running problems.

you can see it on sunday.

Thats a point Peter.

I ran Dougsters APS recirc for a while...And i was really happy with that.

Recirced at low boost, and turned VTA at higher pressures.

T minus 90 minutes until mod time.

I'll ask them at MSW to see what they recommend.

If the Recirc one also VTAs under heavy load then maybe that would be the best of both worlds.

Bad news I'm afraid, they had none in stock. That's what I get for making my mind up at the last moment.

BUTTTTTTTTT. I did get my H+S Backbox fitted, and in record time by Simon at Motorsport World. Which means that I got to drive back from Strathaven to Coalburn with the most enormous cheesy grin on my face that was only interupted by the occasional howl of mad laughter when I put my foot down.

I don't know if I could have coped with 2 mods like that in one day. The joy may well have been too much.

Big thanks to all at MSW for the top service too!

I'm at work.

Well I'm at one of our remote sites for the day. There's no one here at the moment so I'm sitting with a copy of Banzai and a bottle of Irn Bru.

I could really disappear for an hour and no one would know/care, but I better not.

Can't wait till 5.

Motorway to Bothwell or take the back roads?

When r we gonna see this car of yours then stephen!!

You can't be that far from me, i work up in Bellshill

U going to Fast n Modified on Sunday?

My car will be at an event near you sometime very soon I hope.

Next monthly meet hopefully.

The carbon GT wing I'm waiting on is just in the process of clearning customs, and as soon as Scott Lowe picks it up I'll have that + my splitter.

I usually work halfway between Kincardine and Alloa, but I'm going to be based out of Coalburn 2 days a week hopefully, 25 minute commute to work down the 74, and a 45 minute splurge round every back road I can find on the way home.

You know what the say - All work and no play makes shell less money.
