Was seriously considering a AP 4 paddle number...anyone using one, what they like to live with on a day to day basis???? whats the difference between standard, organic, paddle...appart from the price haahhaha any assistance would greatfully recieved!!!!!! cheers andy..........
fraser_drinkwater Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 There is only one clutch to get and it comes with a lightened fly wheel. The one to get is the Exeddy paddle, they retail at around a bag of sand.
lessels Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 anything that can cope with all of your 120bhp ha ha!!
jasonb Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 I would give the paddle clutch a miss as they are very hard on your gearbox and for every day driving they can be a bitch, just my opinion on the matter jcscoob got a great clutch for his car and it wasent to expensive so you might want to give him a pm and ask him about it
sma01 Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 got to agree with swiggi, my mate scott got the exeddy one from uncle dunc(hypertech) fitted to his P1 - its the dogs danglies
sma01 Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 oh, and pricewise you are about right swiggi, like everything else with uncle dunc you'd be talking about a bag of sandlol
teknopete Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 On the clutch front I can speak from lots of experience (ask around) IMHO you`d do well to forget the paddle as the shock loading on the transmission will soon enough turn your gbox into mince. At the same time the lifespan (depending on power being run) can be short the last AP paddle i had lasted 10 months Best I`ve found upto now is the one im on currently, its a Helix HD with uprated pressure plate guaranteed to take 350Lbft of torque. I resorted to this after the STi one started slipping when we were out mapping (StTi clutches are allegedly only good upto 320Lbft) and haven`t had any probs with the helix They are a bit pricey but guaranteed to take the punishment. Pete
johns Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 I'd also say that paddle clutches aren't the best if you do a lot of town or stop/start driving. As Pete has also mentioned, the shock loading when doing fast starts can lead to premature failure of the gearbox (5 speed), but should be fine on the 6 speed. The AP organic and Helix both get good reviews from many satisified owners. Not the cheapest around, but they do the job well. John
