quentin_moss Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Well where do I start, you all know I have been trying to get rid of my car for a while, but never thought it would end like this. Was in Auto Trader and on here, got contacted by a guy in Ireland and to cut a long story short arranged to meet up for him to see the car. Met at Gatwick Airport on Thursday 26/05/05 about 7pm Did all the normal things, he looked round the car, asked all the right questions and took it for a spin. Then handed me an Allied Irish bankers draft for £9500. He drives off, I drive off, everyone is happy. Till I go to pay it in the next day and its a forgery. Apparently he has already done it once before in Feb this year at Bristol on another High performance prestige car. So at the minute No car, No money and a really horrible sicky feeling. Please be careful when selling as this guy is good, really good. Car is probably in Ireland now being rung.
Montythegod Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Gulp .... fingers crossed it gets found..... Ive heard of a few of these recently... Have you stuck pictures up on Scooby net ? Did he contact you from the auto trader... ?
quentin_moss Posted May 31, 2005 Author Posted May 31, 2005 No not put pictures up yet mate but trying to do it today. Worst thing was it was all done through texts never spoke till he got to the airport, so could have been texting anyone.
granby Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Gutted for you mate, i really don't know what to say (well i do but it would not be allowed on here)
Jolly Green Monster Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 OMG!! sorry this happened!! what a low life! Are the insurance covering it?
quentin_moss Posted May 31, 2005 Author Posted May 31, 2005 Not too sure on insurance, should be ok as they say i am covered but have to speak to a private eye and it depends on his report, but should be ok. This is also on scoobynet, I feel that the more people that know, the less chance that it will happen to someone else. I would love to bump into the guy in a dark alley somewhere
Jolly Green Monster Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I presume you have tried ringing his mobile?
quentin_moss Posted May 31, 2005 Author Posted May 31, 2005 Yeah and you get it ringing until an irish lady comes on saying that the o2 customer does not have his voicemail set up. Probably pay as you go anyway (police are looking into it)
mark_sheepwash Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Can't believe it Q - so gutted for you. You just can't believe people have this sort of front. Take it no tracker? Just hope the insurers sort it for you and the b*gger gets caught

riceboy Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Sad to here bout this Q. When my car was for sale about a year ago, I had an irish chap phone me. He asked all the normal questions, seemed to know what he was on about but then started asking about my car security. I told him it had an alarm and a tracker but he wanted to know what kind of tracker it was and where abouts on the car it was fitted. I thought this was a bit strange and heard no more from him. As said, the more people that are aware, the less chance this w4nk3r has of getting another one nathan

quentin_moss Posted June 13, 2005 Author Posted June 13, 2005 Latest Insurance company are going to pay out, not sure how much yet but what a relief. See you all soon in a sensible motor.
Pele Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Yes there is, I got a text at the meet informing me that the person who stole Q's car was caught driving an Evo stolen in Wales - he was caught driving it in Ireland - I'll update when I find out more
quentin_moss Posted August 22, 2005 Author Posted August 22, 2005 Hi Guys, Hope all is well, final installment of the stolen car saga. As Pele said Guy has been arrested, im awaiting a court date to go watch him go down. He has admitted to the 3 the police know about and Southern Ireland are after him too. Got paid out (eventually) by the insurance but lost my no claims. So now, as Im looking to buy a house im driving a 1992 Mitsubishi Colt GLXi (£530) It certainly aint no Type R....... Unfortunately I think it will be a good few years before im back in a quick motor.
mark_sheepwash Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Sorry to hear that Q - lets hope justice prevails and the sentence fits the crimes
