VAL113R Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Looking at buying an Imported Subaru. Someone has imported it but not SVAed it or registered it. What do I need to do to get it on the road ? Its a 95 so it will need checked. Is there anywhere in Dundee who would SVA it for me ? How long does the process take ? Also how do I go about driving the car up from England ? Its not registered so doesnt have any plates on it. Can I still insure it ? Cheers
pmacFTO Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 You don't need to ESVA cars older than 10 years now That should help u a bit....it also means an influx of below par cars is due as they don't need to do all the mods to get the cars UK/Europe legal thus making a bit more profit on the cars.... You would probably have to have the car trailered up unless you can get trade plates - altho only the person registered to use the plates can drive the car - as long as that person is in the car and u have trade plates on it means anyone can drive it....I'm guessing you are buying it from an individual rather than a company - as they would obviously do all the registering and delivery for you....
IanJ Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Guys, I have seen folks insuring the chassis number of cars until it is properly registered. Check with your insurer/dvla as i think there is a maximum time allowed for this. Ian
pmacFTO Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Ah....interesting to know that... I'll store that fact for future reference...never thought of doing it that way....makes a lot of sense actually...
IanJ Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Paul, It's how the kit-car guys drive to SVA etc Ian
