lessels Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 hi guys,i think i have a problem with my steering.when my car is on full lock my steering wheel wants to move left and right a little its self and i dont think it handles like it should (my 99 2000 turbo) i had the tracking done but its no better the steering feels light and figity when on twisty stuff, any ideas or help would be really great! cheers
dougster Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Get the geometry set up checked by someone who knows what they are doing. Prodrive settings are popular.
derek_robertson Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Hi m8 I would check your powersteering fluid level & make sure the pump belt tension is correct. Also check for any leaks as this sounds like a lack of fluid or pressure in the system(no fluid = no pressure = no steering) + (low fluid = intermittant pressure = light/heavy steering) Hope this helps, Del
dougster Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 If the fluid is that low to affect the steering I am sure he would hear it Del? I have a leak on my PS fluid cooling pipe and even if the fluid drops to a ridiculously low level (ie KH) the bearings will be heard and stearing will get heavier. Holding any wheel on full lock for any length of time will force some sort of feedback??? Lessels, where are you located?
lessels Posted March 18, 2005 Author Posted March 18, 2005 im in leven mate, checked the fluid and its ok.gonna take it to a dealer to get steering and geometery checked cheers!
scott_coull Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 forget dealer checking geometry mate, take it along to broomhill motors in dunfermline and get geometry set up, think it was about 40 ish quid. Well worth the money and Job Geevers knows his stuff.
lessels Posted March 18, 2005 Author Posted March 18, 2005 will do that mate, cheers! can u tell me whats involved in that cause i got the tracking done already from the nasty kwik fit place and the only difference is the steering wheel is now off centre?
scott_coull Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 It involves a full laser check and adjustment by people who know what they are doing. They will sort the steering wheel out for you no worries. If you want your suspension exact then I would suggest a set of adjustable camber bolts for front and rear (available from camskill website), see what Job says first then if need be you could get these. He also has his own settings that he sets upto but if you tell him your driving style etc he will tailor it to your needs, although not a massive amount of play in the settings but you will notice the difference. Car will feel more responsive. Im from Leven area to.
zeolite Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 I would recommend Falkland in Glenrothes. They know how to set up cars and i have dealt with them for years. However are there any obvious probs like bangs or bends in your suspension
lessels Posted March 19, 2005 Author Posted March 19, 2005 wishbones and anti roll bars ok if thats what u mean, and falkland done my mot and service and replaced my rear anti roll drop links (think thats what they said)cheers bud!
