****Urgent Help On 406 SRI Turbo****

Any help on this appreciated.

Is the oil pressure gauge meant to read something just as you start the car up or is it supposed to show a reading when driving?

The car I'm looking at shows no oil pressure on the gauge when I took it out last night for a spin. The guy said that it was only meant to check the pressure on turning the key.....but remebering my old Pug GTI the gauge used to read all the time??

Engine seems to pull ok, but I've heard that it probably will even with a knackered oil pump.....

cheers,

Al.

Don't know if this is the same but on my old 106 gti the temp gauge showed the oil level when you turned the key to stage 2 not the pressure( as the engine is not running at this point ). After a few seconds it goes back to being a temp gauge.

I'd double check in the owners manual if I were you as it might be diferent on your model.

I would expect an oil pressure guage to read something all the time you're driving it TBH! The main reason for having it is so you can stop the engine if your pressure drops for some reason so why only check it when you start up??

I'd suspect it's either a faulty guage, or the engine's forked. (either way, it sounds like some BS coming from the owner) .

I wouldn't buy it without seeing something in a handbook or talking to someone at a Pug garage.

Cheers guys, turns out the gauge is for oil level not pressure and it's meant to act in the way it does (no point in measuring oil level when engine is running) So says John Banks who had a 3.0V6 406not long ago.

Thanks for responding anyway................
