GrantyBoy Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 Hi Guys Where can I get my wheel alignment checked as my car is VERY tail happy at the moment. Go round a gentle corner at sensible speed and she just steps out, like touching the breakes on a FWD car. Thats with the DCCD set forward a few notches aswell (just below orange setting). Also the rear tyers are a different size to the front, they're skinner than the fronts. I'll get the exact tyre size during my lunch hour. Basicaly my 98 Type R is behaving more like a RWD than 4WD. Its fun driving/drifting about on open roads but I've got to have my wits about me at all times.
dougster Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 Just the way I like it!! I have the bumpsteer mod. and custom geometry settings. I don't know what your settings are at just now but it would be interesting to see the before and after figures. Are you looking for stnd settings, prodrive ones or your own? (PS don't know ABZ so can't help with anywhere to do the job)
Grovit Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 Granty - Try: John at Pro Grip based in Bonnybridge / Falkirk - tel: 01324 810111. I've used this guy and he is superb - he set up the allignment on a Golf Gti that we have, however he was recommended as quite a lot of CTR's have incorrect rear wheel allignment causing a high wear rate on the inside of their rear tyres. (see comments on the www.type-r-scotland.com website) John also sets up a lot of rally cars including Scoobys, so I'm confident that he could be of some use to you. Cost me circa £50 when I went and spent approx 2-2.5 hours getting the car set up right. Hope this helps Chris
GrantyBoy Posted December 10, 2004 Author Posted December 10, 2004 Cheers guys The car is fitted with Bridgestone Grid 2 215/45 ZR 17 (GD2f7) at the front and 215/40 at the rear? Why would the previous Jap owner do this? Makes the car feel twitchty when driving fast. I can also light up the rears when doing 60-70mph in third with a damp road, squirms all over the lane. Surely my Scooby should have better grip than this??? PS, all tyres have tread left. Recomendation for new tyre setup for me try, Toyos??
dougster Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 The lad at Pro Grip would not set up drb5s car to anything but standard as he was worried about 'tyre wear'!!!!! I used a place in Perth when I was up at AWD. It took them a couple of attemts but I think they know what they are doing now as my car handles just the way I like it and feels planted at 150 (at the airfield obviously!!! ) I'll dig out my settings if you want a look, and I am sure someone will know the Prodrive ones which I don't remember off by heart.
GrantyBoy Posted December 10, 2004 Author Posted December 10, 2004 Cheers guys Anyone know the Prodive settings and somewhere close to Aberdeen that can do this? Ta
Boyakasha Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 Wallace Performance in Bridge of Don can do it.
ozzy Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 Are the tyres different compounds and make? what's the tread like between front/back. Personally I didn't like the Prodrive settings. Felt the car understeered far too much with them. Now running zero toe front, but extra camber front/rear. On Prodrive settings, my car wore the front insides a lot more. I would get your geo checked and then get advice from there. I wouldn't just walk-in with the Prodrive settings on paper. I did that and found out my car was already setup with them - doh!
GrantyBoy Posted December 10, 2004 Author Posted December 10, 2004 Ozzy - Tyres are the same make and of same tread. I'm starting to think the previous Jap owner set this car up to have more drift like qualites. Smaller tyre diameter at the rear would mean they are more likely to spin up lose traction and drift the car. Especially with the DCCD set up fully open. Or I could be talking rubbish as its friday afternoon So what would be a good fast road setup? Looking at sorting out the bushes and droplinks soon, might get it all done at the same time
Carl Davey Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 Prodrive settings are 1mm toe-in front/rear and max equal negative camber front (rear camber not adjustable). I actually went for 1 degree negative camber on the front but this increased to 1.6 degrees when i went from Eibachs to H&Rs. Grant, having had my alignment done at various places in ABZ (and by the chap in Bonnybridge) i'd recommend you use Julian at Turriff Tyres. They will see you right as they have loads of experience with the equipment and will be able to dial in anything you request accurately.
GrantyBoy Posted December 10, 2004 Author Posted December 10, 2004 not to mention the excellent blast up there So what geometry do you guys use?
dougster Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 Sorry I forgot to mention I have rear adjustable camber bolts.
WUZ Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 Grant - I've got settings from the people below, all are different and will do different things to the cars handling MRT Whiteline Prodrive TSL Definitely agree on getting the ALK and Drop links done. Will be doing the RA's ones once I get home! (Friday) Russell ps - do your car on Monday 20th?
