zeolite Posted September 27, 2004 Author Posted September 27, 2004 Oh yes I have worked in the Gulf and frankly I would rather have this than the humidity you get from the sea there. Dreaming of my summer back in North Dakota though.

Rob_D Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Yep it's kin windy here on the Brents!! 72 knots and increasing.
CAZ1562 Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 I'm not offshore but in a blast proof building at the end of the North Sea BP oil pipe I look after the FPS pipe and deal with loads of offshore control rooms
zeolite Posted September 27, 2004 Author Posted September 27, 2004 Ah well it has got bouncier since I last posted and there is a rumour that we have had 100mph winds. My sympathy is with the standby vessels. Now that is a job I wouldn't do for all your day rate!
Fonzy Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Am on forties bravo and it's only 35ish knots, not to bad as yet.
tino Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Keep up the good work lads (and keep me in a job ) Tino (day maintenance Dalmeny/Hound Point Export Terminal, Firth of Forth)
zeolite Posted September 27, 2004 Author Posted September 27, 2004 Work?!!!!! Think we are about to unlatch the riser. The sea is that bad!
sKunk Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Geeze there are a lot of oil-monkeys on this forum Good luck to you guys!
Carl Davey Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Hey Derek, it isn't you i call every evening to say how much water (and occasionally oil) we've stuck down the pipe is it? Probably just as well i'm onshore at the moment as by the sounds of it i my skinny frame may have been blown off the platform by now...
zeolite Posted September 27, 2004 Author Posted September 27, 2004 << Geeze there are a lot of oil-monkeys on this forum >> Hoi..... That is North Sea Tiger to you pal!
Carl Davey Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Hehe, i'm the well spoken one that calls from Miller. Won't be calling again until the 6th Oct though.
CAZ1562 Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 << Hehe, i'm the well spoken one that calls from Miller. Won't be calling again until the 6th Oct though. >> Mmmmm loads of taffy boyoo's too IIRC its normally "Hi its Lee on the Miller with tonights figures " that I remember. I'll have to get into the habit of saying who I am when I answer the phone Next time i'm nights when you're on will be 13th oct
kipper Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 good on you boys, i could never do it for a living but my uncle does, he said it gets really stress full. just little things like needing fifty bits of safty gear just to go outside for a walk....its no for me
zeolite Posted September 27, 2004 Author Posted September 27, 2004 The Miller is renowned for its Tafia. When they were drilling the entire control room came from a small village near Swansea. (OK I made that bit up) but there were a lot of Welsh chaps about. We still used to win the wekly quiz though.
Carl Davey Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 No Lee's that i can think of Derek... Phil, Lol, Neil, Brian, Grant and myself are the number crunchers across the three shifts i see. Aye, the Taffs are great fun - 1 year on since day one and my Welsh accent is coming along nicely. Most of them came up from Baglan (sp) via one route or another over the course of the past 12 years. Weekly quiz is near a thing of the past these days, although i did win the bingo the last time they did it.
CAZ1562 Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 mmm - I'm sure those phones relay different messages m8 - I've been called a few weird names myself (all pukka names ) Are you onshore for the AGM ?
