scott_coull Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 no pre outs means no amps Im afraid mate. Have a look at www.caraudiodirect.co.uk for some decent priced head units which will be upto the job. Also be worth having a word with the guys on www.talkaudio.co.uk and they will give you some good advice as to what will be best for your system and your needs. Regrads Scott

Big Daz Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 << no pre outs means no amps Im afraid mate. >> Not entirely true, You could wire the amp using line in feeds if it allows, i.e. taking the signal from the rear speaker wires and using this to feed the signal into the amp. Its not the best way as it allows more interferance and a lower quality signal but it would get you up and running until you can get a head unit with pre outs, making use of your equipment rather than it sitting idle in the house/garage Daz
dave_morgan Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 You can get step down converters that convert from speaker line voltage to the pre-out voltages. Around 20 I think. I used one many moons ago and it worked fine. You're going to loose some quality obviously, but as has been pointed out, better than sitting in the garage! Dave
dave_morgan Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 << Around 20 I think. >> That should have read 20 quid.... just in case you were thinking it was 20 volts !!!
MikeABZ Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Not sure about the HUs in Scooby's, but in my Mk4 Golf, the Blaupunkt unit had a socket on the back of it and you could buy an adaptor that plugged into it and gave a pair of pre-outs (gave better quality than converting speaker cable to pre-out...) Worth thinking about, but if it's not the case.... £20 for convertors is better than £200+ for a new HU!
