Political bulls*it, burecrattic w***ers, should be f*ckin hung up by their b0llocks, and sh0t.

People who speed, know they are doing it.

Too many do gooders on the IOM who think they know it all, and because they dont like speed, or tut everytime someone overtakes them they do this.

w***ers.

The IOM is going to push itself under if it isnt careful with things like this.

W*NKERS !!

I go to loads of accidents - and ALL the fatal ones, and I reckon that most are either old people that have caused the accident ( should have to take another test at 50 ) or kids that have passed their test on a 125 then go and buy an R1 !! I admit there are a few that have been caused by speed - saab at hillberry that hit the bike head on for example -

should put the driving limit to 17 - then r plates fo 2 years and maximum of 120 bhp ( still quick for an inexperienced driver )

I feel comfortable driving over the mountain at well over the ton -and being very safe at the same time. That John Shimmin bloke is a pain in the behind - I'm sure he is just trying to get everybody thinking " oh - great , he is going to stop people dying on the roads" - wrong !

I also feel that an all island limit would stop the TT dead in its tracks - therefore no one coming to fill the hotels - then hoteliers wanting millions in compensation as the depend on the tourism (TT) - Would you come for the TT if there was this silly limit. Most come for the atmosphere and a chance to have a good rip.

By F**k , this limit thing really winds me up and gets me mad , when I know they are going round it the wrong way.

oh , and ever tried going over the mountain at 70 - it gets very boring.

Just came on for a rant about this and there's already a thread here!

Grrr, tests for older cars too. Mine's 15 years old but everything works well on it & it's a safe vehicle but I'm sure they'd still find picky things to fail it on.

When will they realise it's not so much the older vehicles or high speed necessarily that are more prone to accidents, it's just people who drive cars badly/dangerously full stop.

I wonder what those fatality statistics would look like over ten years if you take away figures for two weeks in June each year when people (largely visitors) pretty much get away with driving/riding how they like, ergo the local population get penalised for the bad driving of others largely.

Sorry, but had to restrain my language as didn't know what reaction it would have. But sod it:

How can these F*cking anti-bike B*stards get into these positions in the first place!! Agree with Kev on all his points, this REALLY gets my blood boiling! You only have to drive around of a night to see where the majority of deaths come from. How many times have you seen a Citroen AX barrelling along with a sixteen year old at the wheel, with R plates with about 6 people in the back. Do they really think their car is going to take the oncoming corner with its good suspension and brakes going 50mph too fast? Yet it seems the real criminals are people like us. I can do 150mph on a bike over the mountain all day long and be aware of accidents waiting to happen. It doesn't matter where the needle is pointing on my f*cking speedo, it's all about awareness and machine control.

Oh and say goodbye to full decat exhaust systems too with all that MOT crap.

The only way out of the loss of tourism is a "No limits for TT only" strategy which would just be punishing Manx residents for the rest of the year.

I really think it will have to be plates off and full speed anyway, only way i'll get caught is if they take me off the bike themselves, then who'd be causing the road deaths!!

Sorry if I offended anyone with the above...face-icon-small-blush.gif

As an afterthought I wouldn?t be at all surprised if imposing limits actually causes the accident rates to go up.

Sound stupid you think? I suspect that if limits like that are imposed then the sensible safe drivers who generally abide by the law will continue to do so and occasionally get done for doing say 80 or 90. The more dangerous/reckless drivers though who generally don?t hold any regard for other road users will continue to go as fast as they do now, the difference being is that they?ll avoid the main roads where there will be more cameras/speed traps, and will instead drive like nutters on twisty little backroads which are much more unsuitable for driving fast.

They WILL continue to do it I?m sure, so where will there be more accidents? A nice open road like the mountain road, or a little country road with hedges so you can?t see what?s coming, worse surfaces, muck on the roads from farms, and potentially a horse or herd of cattle around each corner? I know which I would rather go quickly on & be less likely to have an accident!

"'Many of the proposed changes could actually be introduced by the DoT without recourse to the public, but we feel it is essential that the public plays its part in helping us draw up a strategy to make our roads safer.'

The consultation document is available from the DoT website, which can be accessed via the government website, or the Sea Terminal. Views must be in by August 31 and it is expected the department will produce its response to the consultation before the end of the year."

Hopefully there'll be some mroe names on the petition by then..

Have almost hit the 2000 mark on the petition but it has really slowed down over the last week or so face-icon-small-sad.gif >>

Dude - you might have already done this but in case you haven't, it'd be worth emailing the bike magazines (Performance Bike, Streetfighters, BSH, RIDE etc) to let them know about this & see if they could run a small article being as how I'm sure most of the readerships of all these mags would be more than happy to sign up.

Could make a big difference and demonstrate to the government just how unpopular this would be with the tourists.

Just a thought in case you haven't already thought of this!

Joel,

Just made a quick post but the trolling that goes on in there is unbelievable. I would lose my temper and end up saying things I would rather not about certain wind up merchants in there. Plus my debating skills aren't up to much LOL face-icon-small-wink.gif

Thats the end of Tourism then!!!!!!!!!!

No TT within 3 years

No visiting motoring groups

No performance car sales, (sorry Glen, looks like you built your showroom for nought)

Perhaps the so called MHK'S who would not even speak to there constituents when out on a jolly will tell me the answer to one very simple question.

AND not normal politician speak type answer, THE TRUTH PLEASE

How many accidents where due to SPEED alone, and not driver error or intocication or other reason.

I'll not hold my breath waiting for an answer

Ta ta

Richard (in crete)

God help ya when i get back to the rock

As I've said before as well, they seem quick to proclaim these new speed limits and that they will reduce the accident rate but I haven't heard exactly HOW they think these will actually make a difference here in the world of reality instead of their ideas which seem to be based on a perfect world and theory alone....

My 2 penneth worth:

Increase the driving age (to anything under 32, guess my age if you like; )

Extend the R period (to anything under 16 years, guess how long I've been driving; )

Install speed cams in every restricted zone (no need to drive 30+ in a 30 etc; )

Drop the blood/alcohol limit to zero (shouldn't be driving really if you have had anything to drink; )

MOT type testing for all cars (if it ain't roadworthy, it shouldn't be on the road; )

But do NOT impose a national speed limit.

I know how fast I can drive on an open road, I know when to drive like a snail, I'm big enough (and some may say ugly enough) to make the occasional choice.

I am what is often refered to as a 'lurker' on here, but thought I would voice my opinions on this one.

Driving age to 17, with restrictions on vehicle engine size or horsepower. Or how about restrictions on the number of passengers?

And no more 17 year olds on full powered R1's etc with R plates. What a joke, give someone a 150bhp motorbike and no speed limit road with a pigeon's riding ability and no funny sticker is going to stop them killing themselves or others!

I agree with MOT testing considering some of the s*hitters you see on the road, but only for safety reasons. Don't want a lancashire style clamp down on performance exhausts etc.

I don't think you could drop the blood alcohol limit to zero. It depends how fast your body can get it out of your system.

The thing is, people who drive/ride like t*ssers now will still do it with or without a national speed limit.

IMO of course.

No offense mate but at 19 years old, er..... No!

Speed limits in town SHOULD be enforced, as there is no need to speed there.
