Remapped

Recommended Posts

well, as some of you may have read in some of my other posts, i drove to Indigo GT in Wales today to meet Duncan (racedynamix) for my remap on the rolling road.

i wasn't sure if the car had a PPP or not as it had the exhaust but had no sticker from prodrive but as it turns out it was a standard ECU and no PPP.

so starting from a standard 2.5 wrx map, Duncan worked his magic and i now have 284.2BHP and 329.6Lbft torque. i am well pleased with the results, she pulls like a train with full boost (now 1.2 bar) coming in at 2500rpm.....this is how the WRX should have been from the factory.

the mods are: cobra 2nd decat, prodrive centre pipe and cobra back box, cosworth panel filter and walbro 255 fuel pump so i am pleased with the results.

next step is a VF35 turbo and possibly a sport cat then another map to get her to approx. 320 - 330 bhp.

i would recommend Duncan to anybody and for £350 for the map and £75 for the rolling road hire, it is well worth it (although he will map on the road if the customer wants to)

(he also said that just mapping a bog standard WRX will see 250-260bhp and a good leap in torque)

apparently, and this is from a couple of specialists / tuners I have spoken to, it's not the boost that blows the gaskets. it is due to the heads moving slightly due to larger bores / weaker studs on 2.5 which leads to HG failure. it can happen to a car running standard boost too just luck of the draw.

It can. But the stretch bolts give and weaken the grip on the HG more easily with help from higher pressures. I've heard many say 1.2 peak is about as far as you'd want to go. It only peaks at around 3-4k and falls away after as the flow can't keep up. The VF35 on my 2006STi only puts out 1.5BAR peak and falls back towards 1.0 at the red line. The engine is built to take far more but it will last a long time as is.

yeah, my boost peaks at 1.2 at 2500rpm then falls off to 1.0 bar at 4500rpm (approx.).

if I do get any problems I have been told there are upgraded head bolt sets and gaskets that can be fitted so I'll go for these.

I'll see how it goes. if I decide to go to the vf 35 then I'll do this as a precaution but for now the power I have gives a good grin factor.
